This week, we hosted our Queensland Disaster Futures Focus Groups, bringing together Disaster Futures Champions from across Queensland Government. 🗫

Together, we explored what the future of disaster management could look like – spanning governance, policy and planning, community, infrastructure, communication and technology across a range of potential scenarios.

The insights from these sessions, alongside last year’s Futures roundtable discussions and summit, will help shape our strategic roadmap to strengthen the Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements and inform future policy, strategy, and operational planning. 🚀

On day two of the AFAC News' 2026 Lessons Management Forum, we took to the stage alongside Queensland Reconstruction Authority’s Simon Dorrington to deliver our joint presentation, 'Bridging strategy and implementation: Lessons management in Queensland’s disaster recovery sector'.

We explored how the Office of the IGEM and Queensland Reconstruction Authority collaborate to strengthen lessons management frameworks, governance, and practices across recovery contexts.

It was a great opportunity to share practical insights with lessons practitioners and organisations looking to take the next step in embedding continuous improvement into their planning and preparedness. 📝

Today, we're wearing orange to show our support for the incredible Queensland State Emergency Service volunteers who work tirelessly to keep our state safe.

As we mark National Volunteer Week, take a moment to reflect on the vital role volunteers play in building connected, inclusive and resilient communities.

Whether responding to floods, cyclones or other emergencies, SES volunteers are always there when it matters most. Thank you Queensland SES volunteers! 🧡

Today we hosted our first Queensland Disaster Management Lessons Community of Practice half-day workshop. Representatives from multiple Queensland Government agencies came together to explore:

💡Alternative learning frameworks beyond the OILL model
💡What a community of practice could do
💡How to embed a culture of continuous learning

Thank you to Lisa Jackson and Claire Cooper for sharing valuable practitioner insights on lessons management, and to Dr Alistair Stark for expertly chairing the workshop.

We look forward to continuing this collaborative work to strengthen disaster management capability across Queensland.

Yesterday, Allison, Shayal, and Shelley from our Research and Communications Team visited the University of the Sunshine Coast's Moreton Bay campus. ☀️

It was a valuable opportunity to connect with disaster management researchers and early-career academics and discuss the role of our Office, the Disaster Management Research Framework, the Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements Research Capability Project, and our Research Connect platform.

By collaborating and engaging with universities and researchers, we strengthen disaster management capabilities and support improved outcomes for our state. 🤝

We encourage all Queenslanders to take a moment to reflect on their legacy, bravery, and service.
