Urban Utilities

Urban Utilities We’re responsible for delivering clean, safe drinking water and wastewater services to Brisbane, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Somerset and Scenic Rim.

You can get in touch with us on Facebook from 8 am to 5 pm weekdays. At the heart of everything we do is genuine care: For each other, for our customers and communities, and for the environment. We’re there when our customers need us – whether it’s a simple shower or flush of a toilet; major infrastructure works or new residential developments. Our head office is in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, but

our employees work all over SEQ - including at our SAS Laboratory in Darra, field-based depots in Eagle Farm, Acacia Ridge and Bundamba, and wastewater treatment plants located across our region. Tree roots are the number one cause of blockages in our network. They’re constantly on the hunt for water and nutrients, so wastewater pipes are the ideal target.

Any tree can cause issues, but some species are more problematic than others. The ones to avoid are the ones that love to seek out water, such as figs, bottlebrushes and paperbarks.

The most important thing to remember is not to plant trees too close to wastewater pipes.

Susie and Steve are our “eyes and ears” in our 24/7 Operations Hub, monitoring our network for water outages, low pressure flows or traffic disruptions that might interrupt our customers’ day.

We asked them what the Ops team are doing when there’s a water burst. Here’s what Susie and Steve had to say!

💧Water outage impacting Drewvale residents💧

Update: 2 Sep, 12 noon

Water has now been restored to customers in Drewvale who were experiencing no water or low water pressure.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience and thank the community for your patience while we carry out these responsive works.

--

We’re aware that some customers in Drewvale are currently experiencing no water or low water pressure.

Our crews are working to restore services as quickly and safely as possible.

Some customers may experience discoloured water as your water supply returns. If this happens, we advise you to flush your taps, starting with the tap at the front of the house, until they run clear. Repeat this process throughout the house, from front to back, until each tap runs clear.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience and thank the community for your patience while we carry out these responsive works.

Our Wet Weather Overflow Reduction Program is coming to your suburb soon!

You might see our delivery partners out and about across Brisbane for our next round of smoke testing and inspections.

They’re visiting tens of thousands of properties to conduct inspections of our wastewater network and private plumbing, using non-toxic smoke to spot things like pipe cracks, breaks, defects and non-compliant private connections to our network.

These plumbing problems contribute to wet weather overflows – so we’re working with you to help protect homes, businesses, our communities and the environment. Find out more urbanu.com.au/OverflowReductionProgram

You don’t need a spider bite to be a hero!

By only flushing the 3Ps – p*e, poo and paper – you can help us fight fatbergs in your household plumbing AND our network.

We transport and treat the wastewater from sinks, drains and toilets right across our service region, but with everyone’s help, we can avoid costly blockages.

Read more about blockages and our tips for avoiding them: https://www.urbanutilities.com.au/newsroom/blogs/plumbing-blockages-can-be-costly-here-s-how-to-avoid-them-MCVTCPQHMI4RCHZEO3FYZGMLVENU

Our network is made up of thousands of connected moving parts that all need to be running smoothly for things to keep flowing – like the impact peak-hour traffic or a broken traffic light can have on roads.

When something changes in one area of our network– like pressure, rainfall or demand – it can have flow-on affects across the network.

Our teams manage these moving parts 24/7 so your day isn’t disrupted.
