Happy Queensland Day!

On this day in 1859, Queen Victoria signed the Letters Patent (pictured), approving Queensland to become a separate colony to New South Wales. This enabled Queensland to have its own representative government.

A century of Queensland weather changed the face of Parliament House.
When Parliament House was designed in 1864, architect Charles Tiffin incorporated bold stone features on top of the George and Alice St wings.
Although these features emphasised and enlivened the corners of the building, they were removed in 1966 as the stone had weathered and become unsafe.
Join a public tour to see the surviving original stoneworks and discover many more stories hidden within Parliament House.

Parliament House recently exchanged debates for deep breaths as the Speaker's Green became the setting for an early morning chair yoga session ahead of International Day of Yoga on 21 June. ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ
Hosted by the Consulate General of India in Brisbane, the event brought together Members of Parliament and representatives from communities across Queensland to celebrate the universal appeal of yoga and its contribution to health and wellbeing.
This year's theme, Yoga for Healthy Ageing, highlights the benefits of yoga in supporting physical and mental wellbeing at every stage of life.
It was a great opportunity to stretch our minds, find our balance and take a moment to reflect on the positive role yoga can play in our communities.
Thank you to the Consulate General of India and all those who attended this special event at Queensland Parliament.
