**Could Wavell’s Netball Program of Excellence be the right next step for your daughter?**

Expressions of Interest are now open for students entering Years 8–11 in 2027.

Through three dedicated curriculum lessons each week, students develop their netball skills, fitness and strength while building confidence, leadership and teamwork. The program also provides access to physiotherapy triage, nutrition education and high-level competitions, including the Vicki Wilson Shield and Cup and Super 7s.

**Applications close Friday, 2 October 2026.**

Trials will take place during Week 2 of Term 4. Details will be emailed to families who submit an EOI.

Wavell SHS took Year 7, 8, 9 and an Opens team to the Metropolitan Netball Finals.

Year 8 had a strong day, going down in a hard-fought semi-final. Year 7 led their pool all day and beat Glenala SHS in a close final. Year 9 were undefeated across their day, capping it off with a win over Bremer SHS in the final.

Exam blocks and quals workshops for Years 11 and 12 run right through the week of September 7 to 11, alongside winter interschool sports and R U OK? Day on Thursday.

It's a timely reminder to check in on the people around you, especially as our senior students head into a heavier study stretch. A good week to trade a few extra activities for focus, and a good week to ask a mate how they're really going.

272 schools entered. 20 made the state finals. Wavell finished 10th.

Representing Metropolitan North at the Vicki Wilson Shield, our Netball Program of Excellence went up against the best school netball teams in Queensland - and came home inside the top 10 in the state.

That's the standard our netball program is building toward, year after year.

This term, Academics at Wavell hit a new high. 135 students earned a 2026 Academic Excellence Award - an A in a minimum of five subjects, no more than one B, and no C, D or E grades anywhere on their report.
That's up from 116 last year and 99 the year before: two years running of double-digit growth, at the highest bar we set.
This doesn't happen by accident. It happens because of teachers who push, support and stay in every student's corner until they get there.
Congratulations to every recipient and thank you to the staff who made it possible. Excellence is our standard - and the numbers prove it's not just a slogan.
