This June, QPASTT staff are taking part in The Push-Up Challenge to raise awareness and funds for mental health and su***de prevention.

Across 24 days, participants are challenged to complete 3,307 push-ups - representing the 3,307 lives lost to su***de in Australia in 2024.

For us, this is a way to stand alongside people, families and communities impacted by su***de and mental ill health, and to support conversations that reduce stigma and strengthen connection.

Every contribution helps support mental health awareness and su***de prevention.

This Refugee Week, we honour the strength, dignity and contributions of people who have sought safety in Australia and around the world.

Behind every statistic is a person, a family, a story - of forced displacement, survival, loss, hope and rebuilding.

People from refugee backgrounds often arrive carrying the impacts of war, persecution, violence, torture, grief, disrupted education, family separation and long periods of uncertainty. These experiences can affect safety, trust, identity, connection and wellbeing long after a person reaches a place of refuge.

But refugee stories are never only stories of trauma.

They are also stories of courage, culture, leadership, care, community, enterprise, creativity and contribution. Across Queensland, people from refugee backgrounds enrich our schools, workplaces, neighbourhoods and communities every day.

At QPASTT, we know that healing happens through safety, connection, dignity and justice. This Refugee Week, we recommit to walking alongside survivors of torture and trauma as they heal, belong and thrive - and to building communities where people seeking safety are welcomed, understood and supported.

Ten years ago Muzafar Ali and his wife Nagina escaped the Taliban in Afghanistan. They found themselves living in Indonesia as refugees when Australia ‘stopped the boats’. Determined to do something, they started a small two room school, which soon became the hub of a community and the most successful refugee-led initiative in the world.

We Are Not Powerless tells the story of what can happen when a community refuses to give in and work together for hope, love, and education.

This special film is screening in Brisbane/Magan-djin TONIGHT (6:30pm followed by a Q+A panel) at New Farm Cinemas. Book tix at https://www.fivestarcinemas.com.au/new-farm/movie/we-are-not-powerless

We were honoured to attend the Africa Day Festival 2026, hosted by the Queensland African Communities Council (QACC), and celebrate alongside thousands of members of Queensland's African communities.

As one of Queensland's iconic multicultural events, the festival brought together more than 8,000 people to experience the richness, diversity and vibrancy of African cultures through music, dance, fashion, art, food and storytelling.

At QPASTT, we know that healing from trauma does not happen in isolation. Connection to culture, community and identity plays an important role in fostering belonging, strengthening wellbeing and supporting people to thrive. Events like Africa Day create spaces where communities can come together, celebrate their heritage, share their stories and build meaningful connections across cultures.

Thank you to QACC, the organisers, performers, volunteers and community leaders whose dedication made this year's festival such a powerful celebration of heritage, unity and community spirit.

Our recent Community and Faith Leaders’ Dinner in Toowoomba with Multicultural Australia brought together community members to explore the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Representatives from the NDIA, UnitingCare, and Carers Queensland provided insights into eligibility requirements, early childhood supports, and pathways for accessing services. These conversations reinforced the importance of culturally responsive services, stronger community engagement, and accessible information that empowers individuals and families to navigate the NDIS with confidence.

Thank you to all speakers and participants for their valuable contributions.

Yesterday, we gathered for a Morning Tea in recognition of National Reconciliation Week.

At QPASTT, we support people and communities who have experienced torture, trauma, persecution, and displacement. We know that healing cannot happen in isolation and it is strengthened through connection, belonging, culture, and community.

We honour the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who have continued to nurture culture, community, and connection to Country for more than 60,000 years despite the ongoing impacts of colonisation and injustice.

As an organisation we continue to work towards reconciliation as we strive for a future of healing and justice.

Big thank you to & Co for the delicious sweets!!
