🚗💨 Back by popular demand for NAIDOC Week!
Thursday 9 July 6.30pm - 8.30pm All ages.

Last time we screened Bush Mechanics, tickets disappeared fast and the event sold out. Now is your chance to experience this iconic and hilarious First Nations television series on the big screen.

Following a group of ingenious Warlpiri men from Yuendumu in Central Australia, Bush Mechanics showcases creativity, resilience and humour through unforgettable stories of outback problem-solving and community life. It remains one of the most beloved Indigenous television productions ever made.

The best part? You can't currently stream or watch Bush Mechanics anywhere else – this special screening at State Library of Queensland is a rare opportunity to see it. And it's free!

A wonderful collection of over 100 vintage photographs, showcasing South East Queensland streetscapes, buildings, landmarks, and landscapes from the 1910s to the 1950s, has recently been digitised and is now available to explore online via our One Search catalogue.

The images were taken by Henrietta Duncan Clark, a field naturalist and keen hiker, and carefully compiled into albums. Henrietta was also the wife of renowned botanist Cyril Tenison White.

This collection offers a unique glimpse into South East Queensland during this period, capturing its architecture, streetscapes, and evolving landscapes through Henrietta’s lens.

🚀 Outback Tech Labs kick off in Central West Queensland

Tambo, Blackall, and Alpha were the first stops for the Outback Tech Lab this week, with locals getting the chance to learn how to use drones and 3D printers and think about how these tools can fit into everyday life out west.

🚁 Participants were taken through the basics of flying drones and how they’re used in regional areas — from checking water points and fencing to capturing aerial photos for tourism and community events.

Sharynn Brigg from Tambo Library/Information Centre praised State Library Regional Digital Development Officer (RDDO) Daniel Morgan on his workshop delivery:

🗨️ ‘Dan was fantastic—he explained everything in a very clear and easy-to-understand way. He was absolutely inundated with questions but handled them wonderfully. Participants were especially interested in practical details, such as pricing and which drones would be best to purchase for their needs’.

🔧 As locals created their own objects in the 3D printing workshops, they got a feel for how the technology can be useful in making parts and custom tools, or testing ideas for small business or school projects.

Sandra Warren, RDDO for Central West Queensland, said access to emerging technology training in rural and remote areas helps communities respond to their own challenges with local solutions:

🗨️ ‘People can see how these tools apply to their own environment, whether it’s reducing the need to travel for parts and repairs, improving land management practices, or opening up new income streams. These skills have real, everyday value.’

📍 Keen to give it a try? The Outback Tech Lab is visiting these locations:

📆 Jericho 12 June
📆 Aramac 12 & 13 June
📆 Boulia 15 June
📆 Winton 16 & 17 June
📆 Stonehenge 17 & 18 June
📆 Jundah 18 & 19 June
📆 Windorah 19 & 20 June

📲 Workshops are free and open to everyone.
