This week is National Child Protection Week.

And honestly, this one means a lot to me.

Because protecting children in today’s world doesn’t stop at the front door.

Our children are growing up online. They’re learning, playing, socialising and exploring a digital world that many adults are still trying to understand themselves.

That’s one of the biggest reasons Cyber Unicorns exists.

We want to help give children the knowledge and confidence to navigate that world more safely.

But we also need to educate the adults around them.

Parents need to know what their kids are experiencing online. They need to know how to start the conversations, how to guide them, and sometimes, how to learn alongside them.

There is a LOT of work to do.

But we’ve started.

Through the Cyber Unicorns education platform, and through my book The Shadow World, we’re trying to make a difference.

We’ve now donated more than 8,000 copies of The Shadow World to schools and social enterprises across Australia, helping get these conversations into classrooms and communities.

And this is only the beginning.

Because our kids deserve more than restrictions and warnings.

They deserve knowledge, confidence and someone to guide them.

This National Child Protection Week, I hope we can all ask ourselves one simple question:

What can I do to make the digital world a little safer for a child?

Because protecting children is not someone else’s job.

It’s all of ours.

They finally made it home...

After making the big journey from New York to Australia, two physical copies of the August edition of Printed Word Reviews have finally arrived!

And yes… that’s my face on the cover!

Inside is a feature on Cyber Unicorns turning three, my books and the Foresight series, and the work we’re doing to help make cyber education accessible and understandable for everyone.

I’ve seen the digital version, but there’s something completely different about holding the actual magazine in your hands, especially knowing it has travelled all the way from New York to get here.

Two copies. One very long journey. And a pretty proud author and cyber educator holding them.

Seven international awards. Six for the Foresight series. And two more just arrived from New York.

I’m incredibly proud to share that Vulcan, my hacker fantasy, and my latest book, Glimmer, have both received a Distinguished Favourite in the Teen category at the New York Big City Book Awards.

That brings the total to seven international book awards in the last 18 months, six of them for the Foresight series.

When I started writing these stories, I wanted to create something that would entertain young readers while opening their eyes to the world of technology, hacking and cybersecurity.

To see these books recognised internationally is honestly pretty incredible.
A huge thank you to everyone who has read them, supported them, recommended them and believed in the Foresight journey.

Seven awards. One incredible adventure. And the story isn't over yet.

This week is Scams Awareness Week. It's important that we talk about scams and continue to help educate everyday people on the constant scams that they will face on a day-to-day basis. This isn't just for this week, but every day.

Cyber Unicorns is on a mission to help educate the world on how to stay a little bit safer in the online world, starting with our books and our cyber education platform. We will make a difference in this world of ours one lesson at a time.

What a big few days bouncing between Hobart and Adelaide for two amazing Cyber Security Conferences.

The first in Tasmania with the TasICT and AISA Sec day on Thursday and the AdelaideSec day in South Australia yesterday.

Both inspiring and exhausting but absolutely worth it.

The final keynote by gusbalbontin in Adelaide yesterday was a blast 💥 a perfect way to end the conference. I loved your view on the world and I feel you changed some perspectives in the room yesterday.

Thanks for having me Hobart and Adelaide it was a great few days getting to catch up with so many people and getting to meet quite a few new people as well.

Time to head back to Brisbane now for what I’m hoping is a little more chilled week ahead…

Today we turn 3...

It's crazy to think that 3 years ago, on this day, Cyber Unicorns became a reality. A company born out of ambition to make a real difference in our world, to help educate everyday people on how to stay safe in the digital world we live in. We wanted to become the change that is needed, the guiding hand for kids, Mums and Dads, Seniors and Small Businesses.

We have made inroads toward that mission, but there is so much more to be done. Right now, version two of the Cyber Unicorns cyber education platform is having the final touches put in place to prepare it for official release. We have been working on this for a long time, but we haven't finished yet. We have more in the works: capabilities in development that will help us take another step closer to our goal.

So, if you are a parent, you work in a school, own a small business or know someone who is any of these - Keep an eye on this space; the wait is nearly over...

The August edition of the Printed Word Reviews magazine is out. This is an amazing magazine generated in New York, USA.

To say I am absolutely stoked to be featured on the cover and to have a couple of pieces in the magazine about me and about Cyber Unicorns. Its still crazy to think we are turning three this month. It talks about what we have done in our first three years and what is yet to come.

The recent Origin Energy data breach is a reminder that cyber incidents can happen to any organisation, and when they do, they affect real people.

If you're an Origin customer, now is the time to be a little more vigilant. Be cautious of unexpected emails, text messages or phone calls claiming to be from Origin. Cybercriminals are quick to take advantage of situations like this by sending convincing scam messages that look genuine.

If you need to check your account or contact Origin, don't follow links in unsolicited messages. Instead, go directly to the official Origin website or app.

I'd also like to acknowledge the people working behind the scenes. The cyber security teams, IT professionals, customer service staff and incident responders who are undoubtedly working incredibly hard to investigate the incident, support customers and minimise any further impact. These are long, demanding days, and I hope they're looking after themselves too.

At Cyber Unicorns, we always say that knowledge is one of the strongest forms of protection. Staying calm, slowing down and verifying before you trust can make all the difference.

A data breach is the event. The scam that follows is the opportunity cybercriminals are hoping you'll fall for.

Let's support those affected, stay alert, and continue making smarter, safer choices online.

Because changing the world starts with educating it.

Important reminder ahead of Australia's Emergency Alert Test – 27 July

Australia's nationwide Emergency Alert test is an important step in making sure our warning systems work when they're needed most.

However, this test could have unintended consequences for people who rely on a hidden or emergency phone as part of a domestic and family violence or personal safety plan.

If you have a safety phone, make sure you understand how the Emergency Alert test may affect your device. If it's safe for you to do so, consider switching it off completely before the scheduled test and keeping it off until the test concludes. Silent mode or Do Not Disturb may not prevent an alert from appearing or making a sound.

This isn't about creating fear; it's about making sure everyone stays safe.
