💡 Registering your Australian marriage in Germany:

After the wedding ceremony in Australia, a Marriage Certificate will be issued by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM). German authorities might not always recognise these certificates. It is therefore advisable to have the marriage certificate authenticated by a so called 'Apostille' by the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade before use in Germany.

You can then register the marriage with Germany and obtain a German marriage certificate (the international marriage certificate is multilingual - German, English, French). This application to register the marriage in the German marriage register can be filed at our office, or any other German Mission in Australia. It will then be passed on to the responsible authority for processing your application which will be the registry office at your last place of residence.

If you have married abroad, you can register the marriage in Germany and choose a married name. If you are divorced or widowed, you can return to the name you had before the marriage or to your maiden name.

💡Birth Registration with Germany:

If your child was born in Australia you have to register the birth with the local Australian registry office (Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages BDM). If you like to have a German birth certificate for your child, you can register the birth in Germany with the relevant Standesamt, by lodging the application via our office or any other German mission in your country of residence.

Please note: If the German parent of the child was born outside Germany after the 31.12.1999, the child may only obtain German citizenship when its birth is registered in Germany before the child’s first birthday.

ℹ️ The Ministry of Defense will grant an exemption from the authorisation requirement this week. The Military Service Modernisation Act explicitly provides for this. Currently, this means that no authorisation is required for deployments abroad! This could change if the security situation worsens and military service becomes mandatory. The Ministry of Defense has made provisions for this eventuality with this legislation.

ℹ️ Das Verteidigungsministerium wird eine Ausnahme von der Genehmigungspflicht noch diese Woche zulassen. Das Wehrdienstmodernisierungsgesetz sieht dies ausdrücklich vor. Aktuell gilt also für alle: Es braucht keine Genehmigung für Auslandsaufenthalte! Das könnte sich ändern, wenn sich die Sicherheitslage verschärfen und der Wehrdienst verpflichtend werden sollte. Für diesen Fall hat das Verteidigungsministerium mit dem Gesetz vorgesorgt.

Since the then German Honorary Consul Johann Heussler donated 850 Pounds to rebuild the Brisbane German Club in Vulture Street, we, the German Missions, have a special relationship with the longest running ethnic club in Queensland.

Thus, it has been a privilege to attend and to address our guests as part of the 143rd Anniversary Ball.

It was another wonderful evening thanks to the outstanding quality of service and the amazing kitchen - vielen Dank to our entire staff - we are very grateful and proud of you.

We were delighted that Deputy Speaker Jon Krause MP, Renee Coffey MP, Joe Kelly MP, Barbara O'Shea MP and Councillor Penny Wolff were able to celebrate with us.

Last week, three newly hired staff members from our Honorary Consuls in Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth joined us for hands-on training 🤓🛂

They got a close look at how we work – from passport services to consular assistance – and are now taking this experience back to their offices.
