WINTER FIRE SAFETY | ELECTRIC BLANKETS

✅🔍🔌◻️ Have you pulled out the electric blankets from the cupboard now that our nights are getting colder?

Check it before you switch it on.

✅🔍🔌◻️Look for frays, scorch marks, exposed wires or damage to the controller.

If anything looks off, bin it.

🚫Never fold it up whilst it is on.

🚫🛌💤 Never sleep with it switched on.

Do you and your family have a FIRE SAFETY | ESCAPE PLAN?

You won't have time to think it through when smoke is filling the hallway. So, now is the time to prepare your Fire Safety Escape Plan.

✅🚪↔️ Walk through your home and find two ways out of every room.

✅📍📪 Pick a safe meeting place outside.

✅🏠➡️👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Practise it with everyone you live with, kids included.

✅🧭🗺️ Plan it now, while it's still just a plan.

Today is Smoke Alarm Action Day 🚨

Working smoke alarms save lives ‼️

A working smoke alarm halves the risk of fatality in a home fire. Yet, alarmingly, nearly half of the homes damaged or destroyed by fire in N.S.W. did not have a working smoke alarm.

We all share the same goal —protect life.

Smoke alarms, unlike wine, do not age well over time.

Did you know that most smoke alarms have a use-by date? Some modern smoke alarms have a life-span of up to ten years and may not have a battery to change, making it easy to forget how long since they’ve been installed.

Remember to regularly clean and test your alarms, and check the use-by date to help keep track of their age.

As we move into the colder months, fire agencies often see an increase in house fires as residents use their fireplaces and heaters to stay warm.

Remember, you won’t smell smoke while you are asleep, so make sure your bleeping smoke alarms are working.

A working smoke alarm can save your life and give you and your family valuable time to escape a burning home.

Congratulations to our newest qualified Junior Member for Bringelly Brigade.

Firefighter Ollie has completed the new Firefighter Training FF1.25 and FF2.25 and was assessed as competent.

When he turns 16, he will be able to respond to firecalls.

In the meantime, Ollie will continue with his training before he can jump onto our fire truck.

Our Brigade recently held our Annual General Meeting where Field and Administrative Officers were elected for the 2026/27 year.

Congratulations to all who took on a role:
Glenn Lepre - Captain;
Anthony Schultz - Senior Deputy Captain;
Grace Buda - Deputy Captain; and
Brent Fox - Deputy Captain.

Six of our members were presented with NSW Premier’s Flood Citations for their work during the 2022 and 2023 floods across NSW.

And, one of members was presented with his 10 years Long Service medal.

We also took the opportunity to say farewell to one of our members and to acknowledge his 32 years of volunteering to support the Bringelly community.

Today is St Florian's Day, also known as International Firefighters' Day.

It is a day to recognise and thank firefighters for their bravery and commitment to safeguarding our communities.

To our own Brigade members, and to every member of the NSW RFS and fellow Fire Fighting Agencies across the state and beyond—we say thank you.

Your dedication to protecting lives, property, and the environment, no matter the conditions, is deeply appreciated.
