City of Holdfast Bay The City of Holdfast Bay Council's official page

The City of Holdfast Bay encourages our community to engage with us through our social media channels, which is one of the tools we use to keep our community up-to-date and informed about Council decisions, community consultations, events, activities and services. As referenced in Council’s Social Media policy, which is a public document, Council has both a duty of care and an obligation to provid

e a safe environment for people to participate, converse and exchange ideas. To meet this obligation, Council staff will regularly monitor social media platforms and will provide moderation to ensure discussions stay on topic and are respectful, to Council staff and other people who are commenting. Any comment considered offensive, including defamatory remarks, name calling, racist, sexist and any other derogatory comments, threatening, abusive or offensive language, heated arguments which become personal or off topic and links to other websites or promotion, and/or not aligned with Council’s values, Code of Conduct or policies, will be removed. This eye-catching willow myrtle in Brighton has been selected as our Tree of the Month for June.

Located on Arundel Road, the street tree is estimated to be between 20 and 30 years old. It’s cherished by both the local community and native wildlife, including a rainbow lorikeet (pictured), which was spotted nesting in a cavity within the trunk.

Local geologist Charlene de Swardt, who also volunteers with our environmental group Holdfast Habitat Heroes, is among those who admire the tree. “There’s so much birdlife around here, especially in summer, and we have wonderful trees like this to thank for that.”

To learn more about the willow myrtle, or to nominate your favourite Holdfast Bay tree for a future Tree of the Month feature, visit

🎨 Calling all young creatives!

Young people aged 13–25 are invited to get creative and join our SALA Youth Art Project.

This is your opportunity to explore your creativity, connect with fellow emerging artists, and showcase your work in the statewide SALA Festival this August.

Guided by established artist Wendy Dixon-Whiley, you’ll develop your own bold and expressive ‘creature’ artwork as part of a collaborative series exploring identity, emotion and self-expression. Through a series of hands-on workshops, you’ll be supported every step of the way as you bring your ideas to life and contribute to a vibrant public exhibition across the community.

No matter your experience level, whether you love art or are keen to try something new, this project is all about building confidence, getting creative, and making your mark.

Applications are free and close Friday, 26 June 2026

You may have spotted some striking new posters popping up around Glenelg

Created by Adelaide artist Peter Drew, these iconic “Aussie” paste-ups are known nationwide for sparking conversations about identity and what it means to be Australian.

Peter is a local artist who hand-pastes his work in a guerrilla style—and now his thought-provoking pieces have made their way to Glenelg.

Keep an eye out next time you’re exploring the area and see which ones you find.
