What a fantastic event - even if we do say so ourselves! ✨

Our Winter Writers Roundtable wrapped up last week after two inspiring days across Mount Beauty, Bright and Myrtleford.

With over 110 attendees across the three sessions, it was wonderful to see both locals and visitors come together to celebrate storytelling in all its forms.

Audiences enjoyed thoughtful, engaging conversations with authors Michael Brissenden, Suzanne Leal, Siobhan O’Brien and Zahid Gamieldien, who shared insights into their writing, creative processes and upcoming work.

Friday night at Myrtleford Memorial Hall was a highlight, with a full house, lively discussion, audience questions and plenty of book signings. We then closed the event on a high note with a fantastic live performance from Minnie and the Moonrakers, joined by Michael Brissenden on bass. 🎶

A huge thank you to our incredible authors, Edgars Books & News, our dedicated library staff, and everyone who came along and made the event so vibrant and memorable. 💛

Our monthly Planner-in-Residence will be available for 30-minute consultation sessions at the Myrtleford and Mount Beauty libraries next month. 📝🏠✍️

These sessions will take place in Mount Beauty and Myrtleford because we know that community members in these areas may not be able to come into Bright to speak to someone in person.

We're coming to you in the first week of every month between 1pm - 4.30pm so that you have the opportunity to book in and have a chat about your preliminary planning issues.

📌 Myrtleford Library
The first Tuesday of every month
Between 1pm and 4.30pm

📌 Mount Beauty Library
The first Wednesday of every month
Between 1pm and 4.30pm

📝 Book in for your 30-minute session online on our website by visiting https://www.alpineshire.vic.gov.au/building-business/planning-services/reasons-apply-planning-permit/planning-services

➡️ Please note that you must make a booking in order to attend a session. Community members who arrive without a booking run the risk of not being able to speak to a statutory planner.

These sessions will provide preliminary planning advice only. Conversations cannot provide certainty regarding planning outcomes or advise on other matters outside of the remit of local government planning, including issues on Victorian Government or Crown land.

General queries can also be lodged with our statutory planning team via the Greenlight portal on our website: https://alpine.greenlightopm.com/planning

22/06/2026

While we continue to collaborate with the Department of Transport and Planning to ensure that Alpine Shire benefits from the extra funding recently announced for regional roads, you can also contribute to the conversation as community members living in regional Victoria. 🛣️🚗

Have your say by filling out the RACV My Country Road 2026 survey, gathers data on rural and regional roads to inform RACV's advocacy on road safety. 📈

Complete the RACV My Country Road 2026 survey by visiting https://www.racv.com.au/about-racv/corporate-responsibility/advocacy-for-victorians/have-your-say.html

➡️ The 2026 survey identifies 52 roads across Victoria that are considered dangerous, including the Great Alpine Road between Wangaratta and Bright, but you also have the option to identify your own roads when filling out the survey.

This is a reminder that you can also report issues on roads in Alpine Shire, including those managed by the Department of Transport and Planning, by contacting our Customer Service team on (03) 5755 0555 or emailing [email protected].

We're excited to announce that the Wills Street car park in Bright is receiving a small makeover!

We'll be replacing the existing fencing with a sturdy Colorbond fence at a standard height of 1.8m and tidying up the existing garden beds to remove weeds and make way for new plantings later this year.

This means that the car park will be closed for a week starting next Monday, 22 June 2026 through to Monday, 29 June 2026.

If you're a regular at Wills Street, we ask that you please find an alternative place to park during this time.
