It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of David Doblinger last night.

‘Doubles’ as he was known affectionately had been a member of the Lake George district for nearly 40 years. He was a Deputy Group Captain, Captain, Senior Deputy Captain, Deputy Captain during this time and most recently became an employee for our South Eastern Area Command. He was a member of several brigades including, Wamboin, Ridgeway, Queanbeyan City and Jerrabomberra Creek.

He was also a former member of the Queanbeyan Unit of the NSW SES, and brought many of the skills he learnt with the SES to the RFS.

We give our most sincere condolences to his family during this most difficult of times. His friendship will be remembered with fondness and love.

Today is Thank a First Responder Day, when all Australians are asked to show their appreciation to those who dedicate their lives to protecting the public. We wanted to take this opportunity to extend a heartfelt thanks to our members, who support our communities through the invaluable work they do.

Across Australia, 300,000 first responders – paramedics, police, firefighters and emergency rescue workers – go to work every day without knowing exactly what they will face. Across our service, 75,000 members work tirelessly to support and protect their communities. With the challenges of recent years, through fire, Covid, and floods, it could be argued that first responders have never been under more pressure – yet they continue to turn up, turn out, and rise up.

I hope this simple act of saying thanks for the challenging, but hopefully rewarding, work you do lets you know that you are recognised, appreciated, and valued by Lake George District and whole RFS.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

The Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) officially comes to an end tonight in NSW.

This season, firefighters have responded to 5,465 bush and grass fires which has seen 101,089 hectares burnt.

While rainfall spared most of the state from significant fire activity, over recent weeks we've had around 800 members tirelessly working in flood-affected areas across the state each day.

Remember, if you are looking to conduct a hazard reduction or pile burn, there are still a number of rules in place outside the BFDP that need to be followed. For more visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/BFDP
