Please be aware of the current and forecast weather approaching over the coming days if you plan to conduct control burns.
We have had a handful on instances today where fires had been lit on the a high fire danger day which prohibits all burning off and solid fuel bqqs ect. These were extinguished without issue.
One however has escaped due to the strong wind gusts and did require attendance of the brigade to contain and control.

If you haven't already downloaded the DFES Emergency app we would suggest doing so, setup your home area with the relevant alerts for fires, fire danger ratings, harvest movement and total fire bans.

Please note the high winds forecast for the coming days from windy. These will make the smallest fires hard to manage and create unsafe conditions in some scenarios.

Today is the last day of the restricted burning season for the Shire of Capel .
Please make sure you follow the dfes burning guidelines to make sure you protect yourself, property and be courteous to your neighbours and let them know so they can .
Monitor the weather and make sure all burns are fully extinguished before leaving them unattended. Most of the calls for the brigade this time of year are illegal or escaped control burns.

Please register your burns with Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA commcen on 93959209 to avoid unnecessary drop ins from the brigade.

Tomorrow Thursday the 1/5/25 has a high fire danger rating so no solid fuel bbqs, fire pits, camp fires and burning off are not permitted.

Once again, all Capel Shire brigades were called to a bushfire. This time it was at about 02:00 AM. It turned out that there were 3 separate fires. So neighbouring brigades came to assist. We had crews from Dardanup West, Dardanup Central, Argyle, Sussex, Hithergreen, Busselton, and Bunbury. A total of 18 appliances, a dozer, and a wheelloader.
Once again, the hard work of all crews prevailed. At 0800-0830 AM, relief crews from Elgin, Capel, Upper Ferguson, and Waterloo attended.
This is just a reminder that we're currently still have a non-burn period. If you see a fire or smoke, please report it.

Please note

Due to the recent rains we have received it doesn't mean you can start lighting piles of garden refuse, bon fires, incinerators ect. You can be fined for breaching the prohibited burning period.
The season runs from 14 December to 31 march inclusive and will be extended according to weather, fuel curing, resourcing and expected weather changes.

If unsure contact the shire or the local FCO's for clarity on the numbers listed before lighting a fire and risking a drop in from the brigade or the ranger.

Today, the brigade was called out for a campfire.
Upon arrival, we found four young lads camping in 2 vehicles. There was a small firepit that admittedly was well kept and small. Well kept as in properly surrounded by rocks.
That doesn't mean it was safe. Embers still can escape. The fire was out. However, the firepit was still warm. We completely extinguished it.
It was explained to the lads that campfires are still prohibited. They genuinely didn't know. They were very apologetic and did not cause a scene. We explained what the consequences could be in case the fire had gotten out of control.
We also advised them to check the shires websites wherever they're travelling. Or contact and ask the question. However, we told them that considering the time of the year and the dry conditions, no fires are allowed anywhere currently.
They were very understanding, and I'm sure these lads got the message. We wished them happy travels.
We know most people like to have a fire whilst camping. It just isn't the right time for that yet.
Stay safe and vigilant.
Regards

Last night, the Boyanup 3.4 with a crew of 4 went out to assist in battling an uncontrolled fire in Palmer, NE of Collie. There were crews from Collie Preston, Allanson, Cardiff, Harris River, Arthur, West Dardanup, Bunbury (volunteers), Waterloo, Wellington, DFES, and DBCA. There could've been others, these are the ones that I know of being there. Everyone worked together like a well-oiled machine to attack this fire. A special mention to the dozer operators who were there. These guys did an amazing job as well. Even though we're now in autumn, the season is far from over yet. Stay vigilant.
Cheers.

Do you know the rules of the game when it comes to a Total Fire Ban? ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐Ÿšจ RED LIGHT ๐Ÿšจ

๐Ÿšจ Firing up a Weber, BBQ, smoker or pizza oven that burns solid or liquid fuel
๐Ÿšจ Off-road driving โ€“ 4WD, quad bike, motorcycle or similar
๐Ÿšจ Hot work including angle grinding, welding, soldering, and metal work
๐Ÿšจ Campfires, bonfires and any open-air fires

โœ… GREEN LIGHT โœ…

โœ… Using gas or electric BBQs
โœ… Power tools โ€“ as long as the power tool does not create a spark.
โœ… Battery-operated lawn mowers (not on dry grass)
โœ… Generators in an area clear of vegetation

Itโ€™s been a busy start to summer, with our firefighters already responding to more than 560 large bushfires across WA since November ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Remember! Failing to follow the rules of a Total Fire Ban could land you a fine of up to $25,000, 12 months in jail, or both. Donโ€™t play games when it comes to fire safety!

Restrictions apply to the general public, while businesses and industries can proceed under the regulatory framework. For a full list of activities that can or cannot be carried out during a Total Fire Ban and the applicable conditions, visit dfes.wa.gov.au/totalfirebans

Yesterday the Shire of Capel Bush Fire volunteers responded to a fire that was started by harvesting operations in Elgin at 11.26am that morning.

A coordinated response by Bush Fire Brigade volunteers from the Shire of Capel and City of Busselton, as well as support from Volunteer Fire and Rescue from Bunbury and Donnybrook and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, was mobilised to the fire.

At around midday one of the light tankers was involved in a โ€˜burnoverโ€™ in which two crew of the appliance were impacted. One firefighter received burns and was conveyed to hospital for treatment whilst the second firefighter did not receive any obvious injuries but was still examined by medical professionals.

The fire was approximately 70Ha in size and declared contained and controlled at 2.58pm.

This incident reminds us all of the valuable service provided by our volunteers and we will continue to support the affected firefighters and their families during this time, as well as all volunteers that offer their time to train and respond to Bushfires to keep our community safe.

I would also like to encourage everyone to download the emergency WA App recently released to keep informed of any fires in the area and to ensure your family has a Bushfire Plan
