On Tuesday last week, (L to R in pic) our Head Teacher Careers, VET and Transition, Eve Riches met with Stephanie Stevenson-Wong, Kathy Powell and Holly French, to discuss Vocational Educational Training (VET) options and TAFE access in our region.
Kathy and Stephanie are from School Workforce, People Group, Department of Education and Holly is the Manager - Strategic Projects, TVET North Coast, TAFE NSW.
The meeting was in response to recommendation 4e from the NSW Skills Plan 2024-2028, School Workforce, in collaboration with TAFE NSW. The initiative will be capturing best practice in VET delivery across the state. Bowraville Central School, with its unique BEC (Bowraville Education Campus) model and Trade Training onsite hair dressing salon, has been identified as demonstrating innovative approaches in this area.
We spent time on a site tour and then a discussion to learn more about our Nambucca Valley local VET context and delivery model. We also explored the challenges and enablers for TAFE enrolment such as staffing, TAFE access timetabling and infrastructure.
The meeting has created ideas to explore meaningful ways to improve and increase access to TAFE for the students of Bowraville Central School.
