Animal Justice Party Southern Highlands Regional Group

Animal Justice Party Southern Highlands Regional Group It will give a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves.

The Animal Justice Party has been formed as a response to growing public concern about the neglect of animals and animal protection issues by political parties. It will provide a focal point for voters frustrated by the lack of political action and who feel strongly that much more needs to be done through our parliamentary systems to assist the wellbeing of animals. There is a need for laws and pr

ocesses which recognise animals’ needs and capabilities and which protect their interests, whether they are domestic, farmed or wild. The Animal Justice Party will also ensure such laws and processes are properly enforced and implemented to achieve genuine justice for animals. AJP POLICIES: https://animaljusticeparty.org/policies/

Penny Sharpe MLC

It’s unacceptable that the results of the 2024 Brumby count in northern Kosciuszko National Park are still being kept secret – even though the count was completed in November 2024.
The community has a right to know the true number of brumbies in the park, especially when they continue to be removed and are at risk of being shot.

Our MP Emma Hurst has already called out the NSW Government for using false data to justify the aerial shooting of brumbies. As Emma said:

“No-one can bury the truth. The aerial shooting of brumbies in Kosciuszko National Park occurred because of false data - data that the community and independent experts told the Government was unreliable and incorrect.

This is a situation where actions taken by the Government without proper evidence and processes went horribly wrong. The killing of these horses was entirely unnecessary.”

✉️ Write to Minister Penny Sharpe and demand that she immediately release the 2024 brumby count results.

+ Tag @‌Penny Sharp in the comments below and ask: "Where are the 2024 brumby count results?”

Kangaroo Protection Act Introduced! 🦘

Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick and Jan Schakowsky have introduced the Kangaroo Protection Act (H.R. 1992), aiming to ban the sale of kangaroo body parts in the U.S. This bill tackles the ongoing commercial slaughter of kangaroos for products like adidas soccer boots.

Big brands like Nike and Puma, New Balance have already stopped using kangaroo leather, and now it’s time for the U.S. to stop supporting this cruel trade.

Thank you to Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick and Jan Schakowsky for standing up for kangaroos.

I was born into a world so small, my wings could never stretch. I was placed into a cage barely big enough for me to turn around in. My world is a wire floor, cold and hard, with nothing to feel but the ache of confinement.

My beak is trimmed so I don't hurt myself in my frustration. My bones are weak from the constant strain, my feathers fall out from stress. I am surrounded by the constant sound of my trapped sisters, all of us in the same hell.

Every day, forced to lay eggs until my body can no longer. Then a different hell waits for me.

We are calling on the NSW Government to commit to a rapid phase-out of battery hens. Why are Australian hens left to suffer till 2036?

The loss of any life is tragic, and the death of Bruce Green at a rodeo is no different. However his death could easily have been avoided if rodeos simply did not exist.

The New South Wales rodeo community is mourning Bruce ‘Greenie’ Green who was killed by a bull at an event on Saturday night.

The neglected, starving horse in a paddock.

The blind, lame cow in a feedlot.

The abused greyhound in the racing industry.

The day-old chick ground alive in the egg industry.

These are just some of the animals used and abused daily in our state. And what hope do they have when the government department responsible for their welfare is the same government department in charge of maximising the profits of the animal agriculture industry? Next to none.

What about the RSPCA? Currently, the RSPCA successfully prosecutes less than 1% of complaints they receive, so that tells you everything you need to know about the effectiveness of having under-resourced charities enforce animal cruelty laws.

We know things need to change. NSW's animal cruelty legislation is decades old, and lagging far behind community expectations.
This was proven without a doubt last year, when I chaired an Upper House parliamentary inquiry into NSW's animal cruelty laws. That's why one of our key recommendations was the establishment of an Independent Office of Animal Protection - a historical recommendation now permanently recorded as having been put on the parliamentary agenda.

The NSW Government rejected this recommendation, along with many others, and therefore condemned millions of animals in NSW to needless suffering.

We will not give up.

If you haven't already, please sign our petition demanding an Independent Office of Animal Protection:

You bet they die...

Six days short of his fourth birthday, Dandy Dale had raced 133 times and won $58,720 in prize money. He had fallen violently in two other races, and sometimes raced every three or four days, above the recommended frequency rates.

On 12 Jan at Bulli, Dandy Dale collided with another dog at the home turn and fell. His foreleg was fractured and he was killed after the race. This was the third major fall of his career and it seems he wasn’t worth saving.
