Supporting Our Community Through First Aid Training

St John Boddington recently had the pleasure of providing Essential First Aid Training to some of our hardworking and valued community members.

It was fantastic to be able to provide this important service and to hear such wonderful feedback from those who took part. We’re so pleased to support our community with skills and knowledge that can make a real difference when it matters most. πŸ©ΉπŸš‘

A big thank you to the Newmont Boddington Community Assistance Program for their generous support in making this training possible.

We’re proud to be working together to help build a safer, stronger and more prepared community!

Would you know what to do if you suspected somebody was having an asthma attack?

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Note: If you're aware the person is allergic to anything and is having difficulty breathing, call Triple Zero (000)
If they're having trouble staying awake or losing consciousness at any time, call Triple Zero (000)

Step 1: Sit the person upright

Make them comfortable

Remain calm and reassure them

Don't leave them alone

Step 2: If they have an inhaler, help them take 4 puffs or breaths:

Remove the inhaler cap and shake the inhaler well

Assemble the spacer if they have one

Help them take 4 puffs from the inhaler. If using a spacer, fire 1 puff into the spacer and get them to take 4 breaths

Remember to shake the inhaler before each puff or 4 breaths

Step 3: Wait 4 minutes

If there is no improvement, repeat Step 2 by giving 4 more puffs or breaths in the same way

Remember to shake the inhaler before each puff or 4 breaths

Step 4: Send for help if breathing does not return to normal

If they're not improving or getting worse call Triple Zero (000)

Keep giving 4 puffs or breaths every 4 minutes until medical aid arrives

Remember to shake the inhaler before each puff or 4 breaths

❀️ Supporting our local community through first aid education!

With the generous support of the Newmont Boddington Community Assistance Program, St John Boddington was delighted to provide the Year 10 students at Boddington District High School with their nationally accredited Provide First Aid qualification.

It was a fantastic day of learning, practical skills and hands-on experience, with the students getting involved, asking questions and building confidence in essential first aid skills. πŸ©ΉπŸ‘

We’re proud to be able to support our local young people with skills that could one day make a real difference when it matters most.

A huge thank you to Newmont Boddington for your generous support and to the wonderful Year 10 students Boddington District High School for your enthusiasm and participation.

Together, we’re helping build a safer and stronger Boddington community! πŸ’™

Last week's CPR training ended in a bit of unintended friendly competition when the statistics were in, with Esma taking the podium (by a nose!) with 100% accuracy over the allotted 2 minutes (which sounds like a short time, but trust me, its really not 🀣)
Nice to know we're in good hands πŸ™Œ

We cant do it without you 🫡

Want to volunteer, but the lights and sirens aren't your scene?
This year, we're looking for volunteers who would like to help with non-emergency tasks, like Community Transport, that will give the people of Boddington a stress-free way to get to appointments in other areas.
You don't need medical experience, just a valid licence, willingness to lend a hand, meet new people, and support your community.
Because drivers are needed by request, and being rural, means that there is no minimum commitment. A remittance to cover expenses is also available, so have lunch on us :)
If this seems like something you're interested in, we'd love to hear from you!
Send us a message, drop in, or give us a call for more information.

Today is International Paramedics Day.
We'd like to recognise and thank the fantastic Paramedics who step up to look after our crews, and most of all, our incredible Community Paramedic, Nicola.
Covering a vast area, and multiple sub centres, she provides advanced, high-acuity emergency medical care, responding alongside our volunteers to some of the region's sickest and most seriously injured patients. Knowing she's attending, with her clinical expertise, leadership and calm presence make an enormous difference to the vollies, and, of course, the patients, on what is usually their worst day.
Beyond emergency response, though, she is also a mentor, educator and unwavering supporter of our volunteer ambulance crews and sub centres. She generously shares her knowledge, builds confidence in our volunteers and helps ensure our communities continue to receive the highest standard of care.
Her commitment extends far beyond the patients she treats, she invests in the people who care for them too.
From everyone at St John Boddington, thank you for your dedication, your leadership, and for everything you do for our volunteers and the communities we serve.
We appreciate you πŸ’š

A huge congratulations to our very own Lauren Winmar!

We'd like to say we're surprised... but honestly, anyone who's met Loz probably saw this coming. Although, with that legendary poker face of hers, you'd never know she was quietly collecting awards πŸ˜‰

Lauren was recently nominated by her crew mates in two St John Values Awards categories, and has taken the win in the Think Team arena. This category celebrates the team members who go above and beyond to build their SJA community and help others grow within it.

While she's volunteered HUNDREDS of hours in the Ambulances, responding to the community, Lauren has also quietly dedicated countless hours of her own time to showing new volunteers around the vehicles, explaining equipment, answering every question (even the ones asked eleven times - sorry), and helping build the confidence that turns nervous recruits into capable crew members. Loz also goes out of her way to be a shoulder to cry on if needed, and makes time for a coffee and a chat if anyone needs reassurance or clarification.

Her patience, generosity, and genuine talent for mentoring have helped shape the next generation of volunteers here in Boddington. She's always willing to share her knowledge, lend a hand, and support those around her, to the betterment of the whole sub centre.

Lauren, thank you for everything you do, both on the road and behind the scenes. This recognition is incredibly well deserved, even if it IS against your will 🀣 and we're so lucky to have you as an integral part of the St John Boddington family.

Congratulations, Loz! We couldn't be prouder.
