Done properly, planned burning is an efficient way to remove the build-up of fuel over larger areas of land where other methods are too labour intensive.

We recommend anyone who is new to planned burning to read through the DFES Burn Smart Guide:

Thank You, Chittering!

A big thank you to everyone who came along to our Plants 4 Rural Properties morning at the Lower Chittering Fire Station.

It was fantastic to see so many community members collecting plants, learning about fire safety, supporting local groups, and enjoying a great morning together.

Special thanks to:
- Lower Chittering Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade for hosting the event and event prep.
- Upper Chittering Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade for showcasing their new fire truck.
- Chittering Scouts for the delicious bacon and egg burgers.
- Water Torque for showcasing their equipment and expertise.
- Muchea Tree Farm for their generous plant donation and stock supply.

We also appreciate everyone who took the time to learn more about safe burning practices and volunteering within our community.

Thank you for making the event such a success — we look forward to seeing all those new plants thriving across Chittering!

We encourage residents to register their burns this winter on Emergency WA by calling 9395 9209.

This prevents our brigades from being called out, allowing them to have a well-deserved rest over the unrestricted burning time.

This Saturday is the day!

The Plants 4 Rural Properties event is almost here, and we’re getting ready for a fantastic community morning at the Lower Chittering Fire Station from 9am to 12pm. It’s the perfect opportunity to pick up your free native plants and connect with the people and services that support our local area.

Each rural property can collect 10 free tube plants, so remember to bring your asset number from your rates notice to claim them. Stock is limited, so arriving early will give you the best chance of securing your plants.

There will be plenty happening on the day. You can meet the volunteer fire brigade, chat about safe burning practices, and learn more about becoming a volunteer.

Kids can enjoy fun activities, and you can grab a bacon and egg burger from the Chittering Scouts or a great coffee from Hally’s Lattes.

Water Torque will be showcasing a range of firefighting pumps, irrigation equipment, and filtration products, and SAS Project Services will be on site to highlight the services they provide to the community..

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone this Saturday for a morning filled with plants, learning, and community spirit.

UNRESTRICTED BURNING - 1 JUNE 2026

The Shire of Chittering will enter the unrestricted burning time on Monday, 1 June 2026.

For the protection of the community, please take care when carrying out any burning activity.

We ask that all residents please do the following:
- Register your burn by calling DFES Communications Centre on 9395 9209 – this will ensure that the fire brigade does not mistakenly get called to your property.
- Ensure that you have an appropriate water source available at all times.
- Minimise smoke nuisance to your neighbours. General rubbish and waste must not be burnt at any time.
- Ensure the wind direction does not cause smoke to drift over roads causing a hazard to passing traffic.

More information can be found on the DFES website https://www.dfes.wa.gov.au/hazard-information/bushfire/planned-burning -do-planned-burns
