The return rate of the Orange-bellied Parrot to Melaleuca in Tasmania for the 2019-2020 breeding season, is the best it has been for many years.

01/11/2019

In news from Melaleuca breeding grounds, 18 OBPs have been confirmed - 9 female and 9 male. Equal numbers of males and females is a great sign and offers hope for a good breeding season.
22 more OBPs have been released at Melaleuca, and 10 more are being prepared for release in early November.
Of the 18 arrivals:
*10 are wild-born birds that have naturally migrated (from the mainland);
*1 is a wild-born bird that was previously head-started and released, migrating naturally this year;
*2 are captive-bred birds released in previous spring releases (migrated at least once to the mainland and back)
*2 are captive-bred birds released as juveniles in 2018;
*3 are captive-bred birds released as juveniles in 2019.
