Harper's Mansion - National Trust of Australia NSW

Harper's Mansion - National Trust of Australia NSW Harper’s Mansion is set in two acres of gardens, full of cool climate heritage plants and featuring one of the largest hedge mazes in Australia.

Overlooking historic Berrima, Harper’s Mansion was built in 1834 by local publican James Harper and later owned by the Catholic Church. The house was restored by the National Trust from 1978 and is furnished in colonial style. After Harper’s Mansion was opened to the public in 1985, the restoration work attracted two awards – one from the NSW Chapter of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects

and the Wingecaribee Shire Design Award for Conservation/Restoration in 1987. Harper’s Mansion is set in two acres of gardens made for strolling, full of cool climate heritage plants and featuring one of the largest hedge mazes in Australia. We're open on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.

Harpers Mansion is OPEN

Saturday & Sunday 11am -3pm

House tours are available where you’ll see a fine example of a Colonial Georgian country house built in 1834, and hear about the rise and fall of the Harper family, early colonial settlers in Berrima.

Bring a BYO picnic and find a shady spot or be seated by Mary Harper’s Tearoom.

Also, on Australia Day, head to Berrima Marketplace, near the Church Hall, where you’ll find our garden volunteers selling plants.

Of course these plants are propagated from the Harper’s Mansion garden. Take a slice of history home and plant in your own garden.

Come and smell the roses 🌹

Harper’s Mansion is in the height of Spring, with garden beds blooming.

The volunteers of Harper’s Mansion have been working very hard, preparing the 2 acre garden for your enjoyment.

The rare heritage roses are simply stunning with fragrance wafting the garden beds.

Peonies are opening, iris are on full display, and fruit trees are a sight to behold, laden and lush. Each pathway displays deep garden beds, full of flowering delights. You might be suprised to see a family of ducks too!

And the maze! One of Australia’s largest mazes is a highlight, ready for your visit, to explore.

Plan a visit this weekend, and enjoy wandering the paths, sit in the garden or under the shade of a tree. Take home a plant propagated onsite and nurtured by the volunteers, supporting ongoing work.

And of course, you must join the volunteers inside the beautiful mansion built in 1834, by the Harper family.

Tickets available on the website or at the property. Open Saturday and Sunday, 11am -3pm.
