It was a beautiful day to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the handing back of the mountains, Gulaga and Biamanga, at Tilba today.

We teamed up with the Moruya and Batemans Bay Units to spend the day with the community and share what we do.

Our local member Dr Holland even dropped in for some chainsaw practice!

If you're keen to get involved with our team, check out how you can volunteer with NSW SES here: https://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/volunteer/

πŸ”Έ From Tuesday: Severe thunderstorms possible in the South Coast.

Check out the video from the Bureau of Meteorology below for more details on what to expect.

🚘 Ensure you steer clear of floodwater. If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find an alternate route. Residents are reminded that flash flooding is unpredictable and dangerous. Stay vigilant.

Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.

Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.

β€œThese two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

β€œOur thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

β€œWe are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.

β€œWe ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,” Commissioner Andrews said.

Are you interested or passionate about community service, learning new skills, meeting new people, free training or the colour orange? 🍊

If not, that’s just scratching the surface of what you can experience in the NSW SES. You can learn to: drive a boat, develop first aid skills, support the team through IT systems, use a chainsaw, lead a team, be a flood rescue operator, drive on FWD roads or even maintain a social media account! There are a huge variety of opportunities beyond these as well πŸš’πŸš€πŸͺšπŸͺ΅πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸ’»πŸš™πŸŒŠβ›‘️πŸͺ’
