We're seeing flooding impacts across the state this morning on the back of heavy rainfall, including response for flood rescues.

Floodwater is dangerous. It can take as little as 15cm of flowing water to float a car. Never, ever enter floodwater.

If you are driving and encounter floodwater, turn around and find an alternative travel route. Don’t risk it.

NATIONAL AUSALERT TEST | MONDAY 27 JULY @ 2pm

A heads up to our Benloch and surrounding communities that a nationwide test of Australia’s new emergency warning system, AusAlert, will take place this Monday, 27 July at 2pm.

Compatible mobile phones, tablets and smart watches may vibrate and sound a loud siren like warning for around 10 seconds, even if your device is on silent or do not disturb.

The message will clearly state that it is a TEST. No action is required.

AusAlert is Australia’s new national emergency warning system and is due to launch in October 2026.

Please share this information with family, friends and neighbours so no one is caught by surprise on Monday.

⚠️ Road Safety Reminder ⚠️

Please take extra care if you’re travelling around the Benloch area today. Recent weather has left a number of trees down, debris scattered across local roads, and power outages affecting parts of the district.

If you don’t need to travel, please consider delaying your journey until conditions improve. There are multiple hazards across the road network, and additional trees or branches may still come down as conditions continue.

There is a fallen tree at the corner of Feeneys Lane and Burke and Wills Track, which has already been reported to Council. Please slow down and take extra care if travelling through the area.

If you do need to be on the roads, reduce your speed, stay alert for fallen branches and other debris, and allow extra time for your journey.

⚠️ ROAD SAFETY UPDATE ⚠️

Please take extra care if you’re travelling around the Benloch district today. Heavy rainfall has resulted in several roads and crossings being affected by floodwater.

Current reports include:
• Kitchenhams Road is flooded.
• The ford at Malones Road is approximately one foot underwater.
• Rochford Road at the corner of Government Road is underwater, completely covering one lane heading towards Woodend. Council is on scene managing traffic. Please slow down, as this is a significant traffic hazard.
• Baynton Road is now flooded and is not passable.
• Musty’s Bridge, leading to the Bourke and Wills Road turn off, is also flooded.

🚫 Never drive through floodwater. Even shallow water can hide damage to the road surface, and conditions can change rapidly.

If you don’t need to travel, consider delaying your trip until conditions improve. If you must travel, reduce your speed, allow extra time, and use an alternative route wherever possible.

If you encounter additional flooding or road hazards, please report them to the relevant authorities.
