A hazard reduction burn is planned to be undertaken at Croudace Bay (Lake Macquarie City Council LGA) on Thursday 2nd April 2026

If you live nearby, please consider doing the following:
- Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering buildings.
- Outdoor items such as outdoor furniture, trampolines, playground equipment etc should be either taken inside or covered. Where this is not practical, items should be hosed down regularly to prevent ember damage.
- Retract plastic or synthetic pool covers to prevent ember damage
- Remove washing from clothes lines.
- Ensure any outdoor pets have a sheltered area.
- If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities. If smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice.
- If you are driving a vehicle, slow down, keep windows up and turn headlights on.
Never fly drones or Remote Piloted Aircraft near bush fires or hazard reductions, where other aircraft may be operating. Penalties apply.

This International Women's Day we’re celebrating a crew of women who show up for their communities every day.

Different paths brought them here, but they share the same commitment to protect, support, and serve.

The 2026 theme is Give To Gain. These firefighters live it by giving their skills, teamwork and dedication on the frontline to help keep our communities safe.

Always sharpening the fundamentals. 🚒
Recently, crews have been refreshing core skills, pump operations, cabin protection, rolling and bowling hoses, hydrant checks, and getting back to basics.

Because when the call comes, it’s the fundamentals done well that make all the difference.

With summer well underway, it’s also a great reminder to think about safety at home and in the community. Before you fire up the BBQ or head off on holidays, check smoke alarms are working, stay aware of local fire danger conditions, and take a moment to plan ahead.

Happy New Year to all 🎉

As families gather and fire up the BBQ this holiday season, please remember: keep looking while cooking.
Never leave BBQs unattended, keep them well clear of buildings and dry materials, and ensure they’re fully turned off after use.
A moment’s distraction can quickly turn into an emergency. Stay safe and enjoy the celebrations.

House Fire, Belmont North, Monday 22 December 2025 🔥

At the time of arrival, there were concerns for occupants and two dogs unaccounted for. A thorough search and rescue of the property was conducted.

We’re very pleased to report, everyone safe and well… One dog made its own way safely out of the home and the second dog, a 7-week-old puppy, was located alive and well upstairs of the property.

We were greatly supported by crews and resources from surrounding stations, all of whom played an important rolFire and Rescue NSW station 500 Tingira HeightsrFire and Rescue NSW Station 251 CardiffiFire and Rescue NSW Station 255 Charlestown and DCNEW1 🚒
