A fantastic Sunday morning training session for North Bellingen Rural Fire Brigade, NSW RFS - Fernmount Brigade, Boggy Creek RFS and our local group officer. We met at Bellingen High School and worked on developing a relay system to bring water from a distant hydrant along (and up) to the top car park. Great work from all crew, great learning, a lot of fun - and a successful outcome. Many thanks to Bellingen High School for permission to use the car park and to all who attended today.

This morning almost 40 crew members from NSW RFS - Fernmount Brigade , North Bellingen Rural Fire Brigade, Hydes Creek RFS and Boggy Creek RFS participated in a joint training session at the North Bellingen fire shed. North Bellingen Captain, Kev Doye, gave a great PowerPoint presentation on using MDTs (Mobile Data Terminals) and FireMapper - an app used to visually document all aspects of an active fire, or other incident. The information from FireMapper is used to help manage a fire, and subsequently ends up on the Hazards Near Me app, to inform the public of the status of active incidents. We then went to the Bellngen High School, where we participated in mapping a potential fire. This morning's training was an another excellent example of multiple RFS brigades working together.

Multiple RFS brigades and our colleagues from Fire and Rescue NSW were called to a grass fire under high voltage power lines beside the Pacific Highway in Raleigh this afternoon. Crews from Urunga Brigade RFS, Repton Bush Fire Brigade, Bonville Rural Fire Service and Fernmount RFS and FRNSW worked in knee-deep and sometimes waist-deep water to extinguish the fire. This was yet another great example of crews working together and supporting each other. Thanks to Ben from Bonville RFS for wading through the swamp to support another crew, and for winning the dirtiest uniform of the day award!

Fernmount Christmas party
We had a fantastic turn-out to our end of year party yesterday, and although the weather threatened to be wet, it turned out to be great weather. Thanks to all the Fernmount community members who came along - it was wonderful to see you all, and to meet many of the "new-comers" to our area. And thanks to everyone who donated something for our annual raffle - the prize table was full! Take care everyone, and we wish you all a happy and safe Christmas and new year.

All Fernmount residents are invited to join Fernmount RFS members on Saturday December 13th, from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm, for our end-of-year get-together. This is a great opportunity to meet new neighbours, and catch up with those who you haven’t seen for a while.

We’ll be cooking up some sausages and heating some finger food, but please BYO anything extra that you’d like. We’ll also have soft drinks for the kids, but feel free to bring adult drinks for yourselves!

As usual, we’ll be holding a fund-raising raffle, and are looking for donations of small items which can be given away as prizes - unwanted gifts you’ve received, a bottle or two of wine, home-made jams and spreads, or anything else you’d like to contribute.
