6. Trolling and using a fake online identity to abuse others or praise, defend or create the illusion of support for one's self, allies or company (sock puppetry) are not acceptable.

7. Spam will not be tolerated on Council’s page.

8. Please protect your personal privacy by not including email addresses, phone numbers or home addresses on the public wall.

9. Please also be aware of Facebook’s own Community Standards policy. The administrators of this page reserve the right to:

🏊 Council endorses preferred architect for Bega War Memorial Pool design

Council has awarded the contract for the detailed design of the Bega War Memorial Swimming Pool renewal to Haskell Architects.

The redevelopment will deliver a modern, accessible aquatic centre featuring:

✅ A new 10-lane 25-metre pool
✅ Warm water program pool
✅ Wading pool with water play features
✅ Improved amenities and accessibility
✅ Environmentally sustainable design elements

The current pool has served the community since 1962, and this renewal will help ensure local residents can enjoy quality aquatic facilities for generations to come.

The project is funded by $16 million from the Australian Government's Major and Local Community Infrastructure Program, with council contributing $300,000 toward detailed design.

🌟 Preferred sites named for proposed Bega and Eden childcare centres

Council has endorsed preferred locations for proposed new childcare centres in Bega and Eden, marking an important step towards increasing childcare options in the Bega Valley.

The proposed centres at the South East Regional Hospital site in Bega and near the library at 112–114 Imlay Street in Eden could each cater for up to 118 children, helping meet growing demand for childcare places.

There is still more planning and advocacy work ahead, and significant state and federal government investment will be needed to bring these projects to life.

We will continue working with our government partners to seek the funding needed to deliver these important community facilities.

👉Community feedback shapes revised plans for Merimbula CBD

We heard your feedback and it has helped shape the next stage of improvements for the Merimbula CBD.

Following extensive community consultation, Council has endorsed a revised package of traffic, parking and public space improvements that reflects community feedback while continuing to improve safety, accessibility and the town centre experience.

Key features of the endorsed plan include:

✅ Two new mini roundabouts at Main Street intersections with Sapphire Coast Drive and Market Street
✅ A new pedestrian crossing and lighting on Market Street
✅ Beach Street to become one-way eastbound with new angle parking
✅ Upgraded public spaces, landscaping and a new playground on Beach Street
✅ Minor landscaping, seating and pedestrian safety improvements at Hylands Corner
✅ Market Street to remain two-way, with existing turning movements at the traffic lights retained.

Construction of the mini roundabouts, pedestrian crossing and associated lighting is expected to begin in August, with Beach Street improvements to follow later in the year.

We will continue to keep the community updated as the project progresses, including updates on construction timing and traffic impacts.

📣Council locks in budget and plans

Council has adopted a suite of planning documents that will guide the direction of its services and projects over the next four years.

The Integrated Planning and Reporting (IP&R) documents provide a roadmap for how Council will deliver services and manage community assets while responding to ongoing financial challenges.

We thank community members who took the time to review the documents and provide feedback.

With the plans now adopted, Council staff will begin implementing the priority actions identified for 2026-27.

UPDATE: Sewer spill contained

The spill has been contained and most of the wastewater was removed using a sucker truck.

As the spill did not impact the harbour, previous advice to avoid swimming and fishing in the harbour has now been lifted.

Please continue to follow signage and avoid fenced-off areas of the golf course while testing and any further actions are coordinated with the NSW EPA.

___

Council is responding to a sewer spill at the golf course in Bermagui.

The spill has been repaired by Council's Water and Sewer team.

Council crews and an Environmental Health Officer are on site assessing the situation and taking steps to contain the spill.
