🔹 What's happening beyond the classroom 🔹

Recently, our Year 11 and 12 Visual Arts students visited the Fremantle Arts Centre to participate in a printmaking workshop as part of the Pasar Malam (Night Markets) exhibition.

Guided by Art teacher, Mich Robertson and Associate Principal, Erin Baker, students explored printmaking techniques, developed new creative skills and gained inspiration from engaging with contemporary artistic practice in a professional arts setting.

Experiences like these provide valuable opportunities for students to extend their learning beyond the classroom and connect with the wider arts community.

🔹Today, Fremantle College was honoured to welcome Director General of the Department of Education, Jay Peckitt, for a tour of the College alongside our principal Stan Koios, members of our Executive Team and student leaders. 🔹

The visit showcased the breadth of opportunities available to our students, beginning with hospitality students serving barista made coffee and homemade biscuits before touring a range of learning areas across the College.

Highlights included visiting our Trade Training Centre and viewing the EV Challenge car, meeting students involved in Deadly Sista Girlz and our Specialist Learning Programs, enjoying a performance from our Specialist Music students in the Calvert Music Centre, and seeing our Marine Science students engaged in hands on experiments.

The Director General was joined throughout the tour by our outstanding Year 12 student leaders, Zoe, Marley and Ammon, while Kira from Deadly Sista Girlz delivered a heartfelt Acknowledgement of Country.

Thank you to all staff and students who helped showcase the talent, innovation and strong sense of community that makes Fremantle College such a special place to learn.

The 2026 Year 12 ATAR practical and written course examination timetables are available on the Authority website https://senior-secondary.scsa.wa.edu.au/.../examination.... You will be able to access your personalised 2026 Year 12 ATAR practical and written examination timetables on the Authority’s student portal on Tuesday, 8 September.
If you are enrolled in a Year 12 course, there are some important dates coming up. Thursday, 23 July is the last date to withdraw from ATAR courses with practical examination components or a school-based practical external assessment (SPEA). Monday, 10 August is the last date to withdraw from ATAR courses that do not have practical examination components or a SPEA, as well as General, Foundation, Preliminary and VET industry specific courses. Log in to the student portal at https://studentportal.scsa.wa.edu.au and click on ‘My Details’ to check your enrolments. Make sure you also use the WACE Checker before making any decisions about withdrawing from courses https://wacechecker.scsa.wa.edu.au.

🔹There is a real buzz around the College as our Year 11 students recently received their Class of 2027 Leavers Jackets.

Students were excited to see the new design and proudly wear a symbol of their journey through their final years at Fremantle College. They look fantastic!

🔹What's Happening Beyond the Classroom🔹

Over the past few weeks, Fremantle College students have participated in a series of powerful presentations focused on the impacts of substance use, va**ng and road safety.

What made these sessions especially meaningful was hearing directly from people whose lives have been personally affected by these issues. Through sharing their experiences, students gained valuable insights into the real-world consequences of the choices we make.

Sessions included:
• Clearing the Air with Azelene Williams, exploring the realities and risks associated with va**ng.
• What 4 Services Road Safety presentations with Paul Turley and Rodney Bridge, highlighting the importance of safe and responsible driving behaviours.
• A Drug Awareness presentation from Rodney Bridge, who shared his family's story following the tragic loss of his son after drug use following his Year 12 Ball.

These presentations encouraged students to reflect on the importance of making informed decisions and looking out for themselves and others.

We thank all presenters for their honesty, courage and commitment to educating young people and helping them make positive choices for their future.

💻Current Year 10 families, a quick reminder that Year 11 Subject Selection for 2027 opens online from 7.00pm this Wednesday, 10 June.

Students and families can book appointments with course counsellors via Compass to discuss pathway and subject choices.

Need some extra support? The Library computer lab will be open during recess and lunch on Thursday and Friday, with staff available to assist students with the subject selection process.

We encourage families to explore the available options together and start planning for a successful year ahead.

🏃‍♂️Recently, Fremantle College proudly competed in the SSWA Interschool Cross Country event held at Yokine Regional Open Space. 🏃‍♀️‍➡️

A total of 55 students represented the College, with every competitor demonstrating outstanding effort, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day. Their hard work and commitment to training were evident in every race as they represented Fremantle College with pride.

Our 12 and 13 year old students completed a challenging 3km course, while students aged 14 years and above tackled a 4km course. Our 15 years and above boys took on an impressive 6km course.

Congratulations to all students involved on an excellent day of competition, teamwork and perseverance.

🔹The rivalry continues! 🔹

Round 2 of the Fremantle College Cup saw staff and Year 12 students face off in an action-packed game of Dodgeball.

After claiming victory in Round 1, staff arrived full of confidence, completing warmups and talking a big game. However, the students had other ideas.

Fast throws, quick reflexes and strong teamwork saw the Year 12s take control early, leaving the staff team fighting for survival. The crowd erupted when the final winning throw sealed the victory for the students and levelled the competition.

With one win each, it all comes down to the final round in Week 10, where the 2026 Fremantle College Cup champion will be decided.

🔹 Specialist ICT in Action 🔹

Our Year 10 Specialist ICT students recently showcased a range of robotic games they designed and built for the school community to experience and enjoy.

From pinball and shooting games to a fully functioning claw machine, students used LEGO EV3 Mindstorms technology to develop advanced robotic creations that combined coding, engineering and problem-solving skills.

Students from across the College interacted with the games to experience firsthand the creativity and innovation of our Specialist ICT program.

A fantastic display of technical skill, collaboration and ingenuity from our talented students!
