Last weekend the Zone Training Coordinator and a member of the Western Zone Capability Unit has the pleasure of upskilling Seven current and future leaders with the Team Leader Course held at the Orange Unit. A good time was had by all, especially the trainers.

Congratulations to the members of the Western Zone Capability Unit who were presented with a number of medals, citations and awards on Sunday the 29th of March 2026. Well done to all, especially Craig Rowan who received the SES Life Member Award for his significant service to the S.E.S. and the Community. (Absent from Photograph - Simon Kempson).

Here is some relevant information about the recently updated AIIMS manual.

NSW SES AIIMS Courses have been updated to align with the recently released AIIMS 2025 Manual.

Please refer to the Training Bulletin for details on the changes to the 'Introduction to AIIMS' eLearning course and the 'AIIMS Principles and Functions" course.

If a member has already undertaken AIIMS training they are not required to undertake training again, however, members are encouraged to complete the updated 'Introduction to AIIMS' eLearning course that will be live in aXcelerate on the 16th April 2026.

UPDATE at 4:41PM 23/2: This update now includes parts of the Lower Western Forecast Districts.

UPDATE at 10:53AM 23/2: This warning is now for HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL. Heavy rainfall persisting about the northwest, with locally intense falls possible on Tuesday. Renewed rises are occurring at Willara Crossing.

⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER WARNING: A Severe Weather Warning is currently in place for HEAVY RAINFALL in Upper Western NSW.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast about parts of the Upper Western district today, spreading to parts of the Lower Western district during Tuesday.

Periods of heavy rainfall may affect western New South Wales until the middle of the week.

There is also a MINOR FLOOD WARNING for the Paroo River:
Minor flooding is occurring along the Paroo River at Willara Crossing, where the river level peaked on Saturday afternoon.

Minor flooding is likely to continue at Willara Crossing into today, with a second flood peak, currently near Caiwarro in Queensland, likely to reach Willara Crossing from mid-week.

🚫 If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find an alternative route. Flash flooding is unpredictable and can occur without warning. Stay vigilant.

Keep yourself and your loved ones safe:
🔸 Move your car under cover or away from trees and powerlines if safe to do so.

🔸 Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.

Everyone has heard of the six degrees of separation wherein that any two people on Earth are connected by a chain of no more than six acquaintances suggesting a surprisingly small, interconnected world.
This is perhaps one of the reasons why our social media platforms are so successful.
Therefore, it's my turn to test the theory with a recruitment drive.
Think the SES is all chainsaws, storms, and flood rescue boats? Plot twist – think again. 🚨
Some of the most important people in the State Emergency Service Western Zone Capability Unit are armed with… clipboards, whiteboards, laptops, radios, and an unhealthy relationship with coffee.
We’re looking for volunteers who like solving problems, keeping things organised, and helping the responding field teams (boots on the ground) when things get busy — without having to climb onto a roof or chainsaw a tree at 2am.
Here’s who we need:
🟠 Incident Controllers — the ones who somehow stay calm while everything is happening at once
🟠 Planning Officers — if you love plans, backup plans, and backup plans for the backup plans, this is you
🟠 Operations Officers — making sure the plan actually happens (and not in theory only)
🟠 Logistics Officers — the reason everyone has the right gear, at the right time, in the right place
🟠 Safety Officers — the friendly voice saying, “Let’s not do it that way.”
🟠 Support Team Members — the people doing the work behind the scenes supporting the Incident Management Team functional managers.
No experience? Perfect. We provide the training.
All you need is teamwork, a desire to help your community, a sense of responsibility, and the ability to cope with the occasional acronym overload.
If you enjoy being useful, working with great people, and quietly being the reason things don’t fall apart — you’ll fit right in.
