We’re looking for an experienced Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander professional to join Batchelor Institute as Gender-Based Violence & Student Complaints Coordinator (identified position).

Full-time, ongoing role at Batchelor Campus on Kungarakan and Warai Country. Lead culturally informed work that strengthens safety, supports students and staff, and contributes to lasting organisational change.

Little Desert Mob Stories is open at Central Craft until Sunday!

Five Year 11 and 12 students from St Philip’s College, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and Centralian Senior College curated the show as part of their VET in Schools program. They sent canvases out across the Central Desert and invited young primary-aged artists to share stories that matter to them.

Proud of the amazing work our VET students have done. It's great work experience that shows how a career in the arts extends beyond producing art, and gives real insight into the business side of the industry.

“Through this course we have learnt how to plan an exhibition top to bottom, like how to make a canvas, creating logos and merchandise. With this experience we have started our art journey and hopefully everyone continues with this path.” – Imani Kani, student curator

Congratulations to former Batchelor Institute student, Yiwarr (Stuart) McGrath, whose journey from healthcare to Parliament marks another chapter in his commitment to community.

Yiwarr was sworn in as the Member for Mulka on 13 October and delivered his inaugural speech in the Northern Territory Parliament that evening.

He completed his Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice and worked as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner for 7 years before becoming the first Yolŋu registered nurse, working at Ramingining community.

We’re proud to celebrate Yiwarr's achievements and to have been part of his journey.

High school students completing a Certificate II in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Cultural Art Industry Work through Batchelor Institute’s VET in schools program have created an exhibition, Little Desert Mob Stories, opening at Central Craft tomorrow.

The students came up with the idea to invite First Nations students from across the central Desert region to create small canvases sharing stories and things that are important to them.

Along the way, they’ve been involved in bringing the exhibition to life. From creating artwork, curating the exhibition, to developing logos and merchandise. The artworks will be available to purchase for $25, encouraging these young artists to grow into the next generation of Desert Mob storytellers.

Little Desert Mob Stories opens at 4.30 - 6 pm on Wednesday 14 October, and will be on display until Sunday 17 October at the June Marriott Gallery, Central Craft.

Today is World Teachers' Day.

To celebrate, meet Rufaro Nyamusara, one of the dedicated educators helping our students learn, grow and achieve their goals.

Rufaro teaches Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care qualifications and has been part of Batchelor Institute for 9 years.

We asked Rufaro what she loves most about teaching, what she has learned from their students and what makes teaching at Batchelor Institute so special.

“For me effective teaching is more than just utilising technology and standing in front of the class lecturing. It's about building connections, creating a sense of belonging and supporting students to achieve their goals, regardless of distance or location.”

Ruby is a proud Arrernte/Alyawerr woman from Mparntwe and Urapuntia. The exhibition runs until Saturday 31 October.

Proud to have been on Tiwi Country in Wurrumiyanga earlier this month for the Tiwi Islands Training and Employment Board (TITEB) RTO Graduation Celebration.

Congratulations to every learner recognised for their work over the past two years, and to the 45 graduates who collected their certificates on the day with family, community, training partners and special guests.

TITEB reports 226 learners were recognised across full qualifications, skill sets and individual units. Days like this show what local training, community leadership and strong partnerships can open up across the Tiwi Islands.

Thank you to TITEB, the Board, staff and community for the invitation. Director of VET Karen Nicholas and Institute colleagues were honoured to help celebrate.

We look forward to keeping the partnership going.
