Fantastic results at the State Athletics Championships for these local athletes, who are all Ballina Coast HS students.

Qualifying among the best in the state is an incredible achievement on its own but we are even more thrilled to see them performing personal bests and securing medals and high placings reflecting their many hours of training and preparation. 🤩

It’s not every day you get to hold a piece of Olympic history in your hands!

Our Big Picture students recently welcomed Olympic torchbearer and collector Robert Innes, who brought along a selection from his remarkable collection of 43 Olympic torches and more than 130 pieces of Olympic memorabilia.

Robert shared stories from Olympic Games throughout the decades, giving students a closer look at how each host country’s history, culture and iconic symbols have influenced its torch design. From clever engineering to unexpected shapes and innovative ways of revealing the flame, every torch had a story to tell.

Best of all, these pieces of sporting history weren’t kept behind glass. Students had the rare opportunity to touch, hold and examine the torches up close—a memorable way to explore the history, culture, creativity and innovation behind one of the world’s greatest sporting traditions.

Thank you, Robert, for sharing your fascinating collection and bringing Olympic history to life for our students.

Ballina Coast High School has proudly supported Legacy since our school opened in 2019.

During Legacy Week, our school captains represented BCHS at the wreath-laying ceremony and Legacy luncheon, while around 17 students joined local Legacy volunteers in the community to sell badges, bears and pens and help raise awareness of this important organisation.

Legacy grew from a promise made between two soldiers on the Western Front during World War I: “I’ll look after the missus and kids.” When servicemen returned home, they took on the responsibility of supporting the widows and children of those who had lost their lives or health through their service. That promise led to the formation of Legacy in 1923 and continues today through emotional, social and financial support for Australian Defence Force families.

By giving their time during Legacy Week, our students are not only helping to raise funds that will support local families affected by war, they are also learning what it means to honour service, contribute to their community and help carry an important promise into the future.

Thank you to our students for representing BCHS with kindness and respect, and to our local Legacy volunteers for allowing them to be part of this meaningful work

🌟 Work Placement Shout Out!
A big shout out to Matilda from Ballina Coast High School, who recently completed her Business Services work placement at her school and has shared a little about her experience with us! 👏

Work Placement is a great opportunity for students to step into a real workplace, build confidence and put the skills they’re learning at school into practice.

We’d also like to recognise BCHS and Head Teacher Administration, Donna Ryan, for their ongoing support of work placement and for encouraging students to make the most of these valuable opportunities.

It takes a team effort between students, schools and host employers to make work placement happen – and these experiences can make a real difference in preparing young people for what comes next.
