Our thoughts are with everyone touched by this event.

Like many across NSW, we have woken to the devastating news that three people have died following a boating accident off the Ballina bar, including two Marine Rescue volunteers.

Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives, those still waiting for answers, those who survived, and the wider Marine Rescue community.

Marine Rescue volunteers give their time to help others in some of the most dangerous and unpredictable conditions. To lose volunteers while they were out serving their community is heartbreaking beyond words.

Emergency services have worked tirelessly through the night, with the search and response continuing today.

On behalf of NSW Incident Alerts, we extend our deepest condolences to everyone impacted by this tragedy.

We've retrieved many birds & cats from trees over the years, but this morning was our first POSSUM.
A juvenile ring tail possum found herself in trouble and heavily out numbered in a neighbourhood stouch against butcher birds & magpies.
We supported Northern Rivers Wildlife Carers Inc and worked together to remove the young possum from the tree, successfully ending the 'tree brawl' and returning Fox Street to it's usual tranquillity.
Shout-out to Firefighter Pete (now known as Pete the possum catcher) for his excellent mid-air catch.
We are pleased to hear that 'Peta' the possum has passed her vet check & is doing well.

This International Women's Day we’re celebrating a crew of women who show up for their communities every day.

Different paths brought them here, but they share the same commitment to protect, support, and serve.

The 2026 theme is Give To Gain. These firefighters live it by giving their skills, teamwork and dedication on the frontline to help keep our communities safe.

Today the Big Picture Education class from Ballina Coast High School visited the station to learn who FRNSW is, what we do, careers etc. Students learnt fire safety tips, saw the kitchen fire simulator in action & checked out our trucks & equipment.
We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did πŸ˜ƒ

Phew, what a day! Crews have been kept busy most of the day on two incidents.

This morning we responded to a building fire in River Street. This incident is what we refer to as 'a good save', with crews containing the fire to the building of origin & only very minor damage to the adjacent heritage building. Importantly, the occupants can sleep in their home tonight & have not been displaced.
Many thanks to & for their support with crew rotation, decontamination & air cylinders, & for closing River Street, allowing us a traffic free work area & for ensuring crew welfare.

This afternoon we had a more protracted incident at the Ballina Waste Management Facility where fire engulfed the building waste section, with small grass fires also occuring. This type of fire requires a lot of water & an excavator to pick apart the pile to achieve complete extinguishment. Thanks for their support & assistanance on the fireground & also for moving up to our station & providing coverage for Ballina while we were busy.

Tomorrow is a TOBAN, stay safe Ballina!!

This week we invited Lennox Head RFS to share our drill night. We got to check out their new pump & equipment before working through a multi-agency structure fire scenario together. Joint training builds good relationships between our crews while enhancing our understanding of each other's capabilities & expectations at incidents. This is a win for us and the communities we serve. Thanks for making it a great night Lennox!
