Happy Philippines Independence Day

Philippine Independence Day (Araw ng Kalayaan) is celebrated annually on June 12 to commemorate the nation's declaration of independence from Spanish colonial rule in 1898. It is a major national holiday marked by parades, cultural festivals, flag-raising ceremonies, and traditional Filipino food.

Between 1947 and now Australia has issued one million permanent humanitarian visas – welcoming people from all parts of the globe, people who have helped to build modern Australia.

Refugee Week 2026 is a moment to reflect on that milestone and celebrate the million stories behind it.

Talking of stories - head to the Refugee Council of Australian website for stories from people like Thu-Trang, Maria, Hani and others.

🌈💬 Have your say on Ballarat’s next LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Plan!

The City of Ballarat is inviting the community to help shape the LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Plan 2027–2031, with consultation now open during Pride Month.

The updated plan will guide Council’s work over the next four years, building on existing progress to ensure services, spaces and events across Ballarat are welcoming, safe and accessible for the LGBTIQA+ community.

Work is already underway through initiatives like Pride Month, the LGBTIQA+ Advisory Committee and inclusive programs across Council venues, and community feedback will help shape what comes next.

🗓️ Consultation is open until Sunday 30 June 2026

Community members can also take part in upcoming engagement sessions in person or online.

Today us Mabo Day

Today us Mabo Day

The final day of National Reconciliation Week every year is one of the most significant in Australia.

Mabo Day, celebrated annually on 3 June, commemorates Mer Island man Eddie Koiki Mabo and his successful advocacy to overturn the legal fiction of terra nullius, or ‘land belonging to no-one’.

Following the High Court’s Mabo decision, Australia’s Federal Parliament passed the Native Title Act 1993 which established a legal framework for native title claims throughout Australia by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

and Mabo Day are a reminder to be ‘All In’ to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to commit ourselves to reconciliation and the fight for First Nations justice in Australia.
