Final week to submit your nominations for the 2026 Ballarat Seniors Awards! 🌟

As nominations enter their final week, we're shining a spotlight on Anam Cara, recipients of the 2025 Community Teamwork Award.

Anam Cara provides holistic care and support to people undergoing cancer treatment and other medical procedures in Ballarat. At the heart of the service is a dedicated team of volunteers who help create a warm, welcoming and compassionate environment for patients, families and staff.

Through their kindness, commitment and willingness to support others, Anam Cara's volunteers make a lasting difference to the lives of many in our community.

🏆 Know an inspiring volunteer, team or organisation that deserves recognition? Now is the time to nominate them for the 2026 Ballarat Seniors Awards.

Come and join the Ageing Well team as we celebrate another Seniors Festival in Ballarat and host the FREE Victorian Seniors Festival Country Concert featuring Dannielle De Andrea.

Crossing genres of pop, country, soul, bossa nova and jazz, Dannielle blends the nostalgic charm of the Great American Songbook with a contemporary sensibility.

When: Tuesday 6 October 2026, 11am (Doors open from 10am)
Where: Civic Hall, 300-304 Mair Street, Ballarat
Cost: FREE. No bookings required.
Transport: Park & Ride bus service available from City Oval. Register your spot via Humanitix or call Ageing Well Services on 5320 5500.

Nominations are now open for the 2026 Ballarat Seniors Awards! 🌟

We're shining a spotlight on John, recipient of the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award.

John has dedicated decades of service to the Ballarat community and beyond, contributing to organisations including the Ballarat East Rotary Club, Ballarat North Community Centre, Ballarat North Senior Citizens Club and U3A Ballarat. His volunteer work has also supported rebuilding projects in Timor-Leste and Fiji, along with housing support, emergency relief, aged and disability care, and mental health programs.

Known for his calm leadership and ability to bring people together, John has made a lasting impact on countless lives through his commitment to helping others.

Our other LGBTIQA+ event for the Ballarat Seniors Festival is the Ageing With Pride 🔎🧺Mystery Picnic

Join the City of Ballarat Ageing Well Services Team as we celebrate the Ballarat Seniors Festival and our Pride community. Travel by bus to a surprise destination where you’ll enjoy beautiful scenery, a stop for morning tea and a picnic lunch. A fantastic opportunity for older LGBTI+ adults and Allies to socialise, explore and celebrate being part of a welcoming and inclusive community.

🗓️When: Tuesday 20 October 9:30am – 3pm
🗺️Where: Leaving from Eureka Centre carpark. 102 Stawell Street, Eureka. (Free all day parking available)

As part of this year's Ballarat Seniors Festival, we are proud to present the:
🌈📖Rainbow Memoir Workshop

LGBTI+ organisation Switchboard Victoria (https://www.switchboard.org.au/) is bringing the Life Memoir workshop to Ballarat for Seniors Festival - supported by City of Ballarat. Join us for a welcoming and reflective space to explore your life experiences through guided storytelling and gentle writing prompts. Developed and co-facilitated by Psychologist and Author Peter Quarry. This is an LGBTI+ facilitated workshop and Allies are welcome to join. There will be an LGBTI+ only workshop held later in the year.

What to expect?

* Guided life reflection activities
* Gentle writing prompts
* Optional sharing in a supportive group space
* Time for connection and conversation

Morning tea and refreshments provided.

🏆You only have 10 days to nominate people for Ballarat's Senior Awards 2026! 🏆

Did you know that in 2023, community treasure Cheryl Szöllősi was awarded the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award at the Ballarat Seniors Awards?

Cheryl co-ordinates Rainbow Coffee Ballarat, an intergenerational support group for LGBTIQA+ people. During her tenure at the head of Rainbow Coffee, she has increased membership threefold! She also plays a key role in welcoming q***r folks who are new to Ballarat or are new to the LGBTIQA+ community.

Cheryl is committed to keeping our older LGBTIQA+ community members active and connected and her efforts are greatly appreciated by the rainbow community here in Ballarat.
