What is worse than a cold shower? No shower! 🥶

A severe frost is forecast again – stop frozen water from wrecking your day by protecting your water meter.

Extreme weather can freeze your meter, or worse, cause it to burst. The quickest way to save the day is to wrap a towel around the metal parts of your meter.

If your meter does freeze, we recommend you wait for it to defrost naturally. Room temperature water can be used to speed up the process, but never boiling, which can cause your meter to burst.

If you do experience a burst meter, our team can be contacted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 1800 061 514. Please be mindful that wait times may be longer than normal if we’re experiencing high demand.

Have you checked your Overflow Relief Gully (ORG) lately to ensure it is clear of debris?

An ORG is a drain-like fitting located outside your home, designed to prevent sewage overflows from entering your property. These are especially important during periods of heavy rainfall. 🌂🌧️

It's important to regularly inspect your ORG to ensure it's not:

🏡Covered by landscaping or garden beds

💐Blocked by objects like pot plants

🧱Corroded or fixed in concrete

🚮Filled with debris.

🗣️Great ideas, thoughtful arguments and some impressive young voices were on display at this year's Australian Catholic University (ACU) Debating Challenge Cup Grand Finals with the Royal South Street Society.

As proud community partners, we had the privilege to attend and support the students representing the schools within our region. They put their debating skills to the test, sharing their ideas, challenging each other and tackling some important water-related topics along the way.💧

Congratulations to the winners and to every student who took part. It's inspiring to see young people developing the confidence and skills to have their voices heard.👏🏅

💡A simple idea has helped turn surplus plumbing supplies into a valuable training resource for the next generation of tradespeople.

Following a regulatory change that means lead plumbing products can no longer be used when they come into contact with potable water, we had a range of surplus items in our inventory that could no longer be used for their original purpose.

Rather than seeing these products go to waste, our Inventory and Facilities Officer, Georgia, and our Head of Commercial, Contracts and Procurement, Kirsty, looked for a way to give them a second life.

Georgia reached out to Federation University Australia TAFE to see if the supplies could be used for training purposes, and they were more than happy to take them.

The surplus stock, including water meters, tapping saddles, brass fittings and other plumbing supplies, will be used at their new sandpit and water main connection training facility, helping students develop practical skills in water connections.

A big thank you to Georgia and Kirsty for thinking outside the box, and to Federation University for giving these products a new purpose. ♻️👏

We recently joined more than 40 members of the Probus Club of Ballarat Central to talk about our current and future water services planning.

The session covered our Urban Water Strategy, along with an overview of our current regional water supply systems and wastewater services.

There was plenty of interest and some great questions from the group, making it a valuable opportunity to share more about the work we do to manage and deliver essential water services across our region.

Thanks to the Probus Club of Ballarat Central for inviting us along and for the great conversation!

Tuck your water meter in! A frosty morning is on the way 🥶💧⁠

Temperatures are set to plummet tonight, so avoid a frozen, damaged or burst meter by taking one simple step.

🧣Cover the metal parts of your water meter with a towel. That's all you need! A towel helps protect your meter from freezing temps and is something you'll likely already have at home. ⁠

Have a traditional analog meter? You can also use other household items like a foam or wooden box, carpet offcut or hessian sack to cover your meter.

Have a digital meter? Make sure you only cover the metal parts. The plastic top is frost resistant and needs to remain uncovered so it can accurately transmit data. ⁠

Just over a month ago, we shared the news that surplus water was being transferred to Goldfields Reservoir.

This valued recreational space now looks great, thanks to higher-than-average rainfall and making the most of the excess water transferred from Evansford Reservoir.

We're now in the final phase of Stage 2 works to upgrade the Daylesford High Level Basin, an important part of the local water supply network.

The project is replacing the basin's ageing liner and completing essential repairs to help maintain the asset and support a reliable water supply for the Daylesford community.

There's been great progress in recent months, with concrete repairs now complete and some minor roof maintenance finished. The new basin liner is the final part of the upgrade, with installation due to begin shortly.

While the basin remains offline, temporary water tanks and pipework are helping maintain water supply to customers. Once the new liner is installed, the basin will be refilled and returned to service, and the temporary water tanks removed.

It's great to see this important upgrade nearing completion. We thank the Daylesford community for their ongoing patience and support. 🤝
