A deadly and important story to hear as these beginnings are shared by many Ballarat youth. There is alarming census data showing Indigenous students here leaving school, with around 50% departing in high school before year 12. Given the overt racism expressed at ANZAC day events nationwide, it is imperative that all leaders are aware of, have conversations about, and align with Closing the Gap priority reforms, as well as future opportunities in Victoria, such as Treaty’s Gellung Warl, to dismantle systemic racism through business and education frameworks.
It is a child’s right to feels safe in their own skin, to express and learn their languages and cultures and to not be harmed for taking part in age old protocols for spiritual and physical wellbeing such as smoking or water ceremony.
