โ ๏ธ Unrestricted Burning Period starts Monday 27 April 2026 โ ๏ธ
During the Unrestricted Burning Period, you may burn without a permit, and Winter is an ideal time to prepare your property for the next fire season. Hereโs what you need to know:
๐ All burns must be registered with DFES via (08) 9395 9209
๐ You must notify your neighbours of your burn prior to lighting up
โ Due to smoke, no burning is allowed on land under 2000m2
๐ง Burns must be conducted in an area surrounded by firebreaks
๐ค You must be present and in control of the burn at all times (preferably 2 able-bodied adults at minimum for the full duration), and have the ability to extinguish the fire at any moment through water or manual methods
๐ฟ Donโt burn damp, wet or green material (causes excessive smoke)
๐งฏ If your burn-off causes smoke to blow across public roads and reduce visibility, you must immediately extinguish the fire
Remember, no burning is allowed if the Fire Danger Rating is High or above, or a Total Fire Ban has been declared, regardless of the burning period. It is your legal responsibility to check prior to undertaking any burn (health legislation is also still applicable).
Dates are subject to change due to seasonal conditions or unpredictable circumstances. Speak with your local Fire Control Officer for further support and advice - contact details are available in the Fire Prevention Order which you can view on the Shire website, along with other safe burning and fire prevention resources ๐ https://www.donnybrook-balingup.wa.gov.au/services/fire-emergency-management
