Congratulations to Tameika West from Balaklava High School on being named Council's 2026 VET Student of the Year!

After completing a Certificate II in Construction Pathways, Tameika discovered her passion for carpentry and the construction industry, impressing the judging panel with her skills, enthusiasm, and dedication.

👏 Congratulations also to our runners-up Lorena Burford and Madalyn Wandel, and Highly Commended recipients William Young and Elleciea Hanrahan.

🚧Port Wakefield Tidal Pool upgrades are about to begin🚧

From Wednesday 9 September, works will commence on: A new footbridge, dredging of the tidal pool and future dredging works at the boat ramp

Temporary closures will be in place during construction, with works expected to be completed by the end of January 2027.

This exciting project is another step forward in delivering improvements identified through the Port Wakefield Master Plan.

Please be advised that the Department of Defence will be conducting trials from 7 September to 22 September 2026 at the Port Wakefield Proof and Experimental Range.

🔊 These activities will generate high noise levels between 0800 and 1630 hrs, Monday to Friday.

There will be a fireworks display in Balaklava tonight from 7:15pm.

The fireworks may create some noise for a short period, so please keep this in mind if you have pets that may be affected.

• Keep pets indoors in a secure, comfortable area.
• Close windows, curtains and blinds to help reduce noise and flashes.
• Ensure your pet's ID tag and microchip details are up to date.
• Provide a safe space where they can retreat if they become anxious.
• Keep dogs on a lead if heading outdoors before or after the display.

Council is reminding local farmers and landholders to take advantage of the upcoming drumMUSTER collection days to recycle eligible chemical containers.

📅 Collection Dates
📍 Everard Transfer Station – 7 October 2026
📍 Owen Transfer Station – 14 October 2026
Call Council on 8862 0800 to book a spot.

To date, the drumMUSTER program has recycled over 46 million containers, transforming them into practical products like wheelie bins, road signs, fence posts, and even new chemical drums. 🌱
