Our team has been out along the Combienbar River recently, identifying potential sites for future revegetation works. ๐ŸŒฟ

While on the ground, staff also kept an eye out for any w**d outbreaks, pinpointing areas where we can take action early and protect native vegetation.

These site visits are a key process in planning on groundwork that supports healthier waterways and improve habitat.

What an amazing place to visit with a group of inspirational women from multiple agencies across Gippsland. ๐ŸŒฟ

Thank you to GLaWAC for leading such a wonderful day and sharing a special and culturally significant place for Gunaikurnai women.

We heard and shared stories, walked together, and learnt the art of basket weaving. It was an opportunity to reflect on us, our work, our families and connecting with Gunaikurnai Country with strong Gunaikurnai women.

This was all made possible with the connections of the Gippsland Environmental Agency (GEA) group, with 50 women from 10 different agencies sharing knowledge, ideas and supporting one another.

๐Ÿ“ธ thank you GLaWAC

๐ŸŸ Great news for the Buchan River!

Monitoring shows the fishway is working, with a big jump in fish numbers and a diverse range of species now moving freely upstream and downstream.

The results show clear improvements in movement both upstream and downstream, along with a substantial increase in abundance. The most recent surveys recorded a total of 2,371 individual fish; significantly higher than pre-construction surveys, where numbers were in the hundreds.

The fishway now reconnects the river, allowing fish to migrate up to 127 kilometres through the upper reaches of the Buchan River, restoring access to important habitat that was previously out of reach.

This National Reconciliation Week, we acknowledge the 2026 theme, โ€œAll Inโ€, a call for all of us to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

The artwork pictured, created by local artist Bradley Brown and proudly displayed in our foyer, represents this Country, East Gippsland. It reflects the ongoing work we all share in caring for and preserving this place for future generations.

Today, National Sorry Day marks 29 years since the Bringing Them Home Report was presented to the Australian Parliament in 1997 and honouring the resilience of Stolen Generation survivors.

We recognise the strength of survivors, and the continuing impact of trauma experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities and peoples and take this time to reflect on our shared responsibility to contribute to healing.

Environmental water, Snowy Hydro operations, and Snowy monitoring were all on the agenda in Marlo recently, with the Snowy Advisory Committee joined by NSW DCCEEW and Snowy Hydro Ltd offering the community a chance to hear from them all in person.

Covering both NSW and Victorian perspectives, the session highlighted the work happening across the Snowy catchment.

The next day, Committee members headed out onto the Snowy River to see firsthand some of the key issues at the heart of the discussions.

โœจThanks to all volunteers in East Gippsland, your dedication does not go unnoticed. โœจ

To wind up Volunteer Week we share the transformation of the water tank at Fingerboards by Glenaladale Landcare Group.

๐ŸŒŸLandcare volunteers do much more than plant trees. ๐ŸŒณ

Glenaladale Landcare Group funded local artist Jenny Toye to transform the water tank at Fingerboards into a stunning mural. ๐ŸŽจ

The artwork celebrates our unique local wildlife and natural heritage. ๐Ÿฆ‰๐Ÿ๐Ÿฆ

Inspired by the Den of Nargun, the mural features the endangered Giant Burrowing Frog recently found in Glenaladale. ๐Ÿธ
