No one expects a road crash to happen to them, until it does”

This May, Amber Community is calling on regional communities to Shine a Light on Road Safety. On Friday 22 May, turn your headlights on with Amber Community to Shine a Light on Road Safety.

It’s a small step that can make a big difference.

Country roads present unique challenges, long distances, higher speeds, and changing conditions. Taking extra care behind the wheel can save lives.

Be part of the movement by supporting Shine a Light on Road Safety, whether that’s sharing the message, getting involved in local fundraising, or joining the Walk & Wheel event.

Together, we can help prevent road trauma in our regions.
💛 Walk in support
💛 Honour those impacted

Between the hours of 2pm - 5pm on Thursday the 14th of May, Police received several calls from concerned community members in the Millbrook and Bungaree areas in relation to a Toyota Hilux Utility seen loitering in the area and acting suspiciously.

One resident contacted Police to inform them that an un-known male had allegedly attended their property and was observed on CCTV cutting the lock off a boat trailer, before attaching it to the utility and leaving the address.

Despite extensive patrols, police were unable to locate the male.

At about 7pm, police were contacted to conduct a welfare check on a male in a Toyota Hilux at the Moorabool Reservoir in Bolwarrah. The Toyota utility was reportedly bogged, and a boat was secured nearby.

Ballan and Bacchus Marsh police members attended the location and located the male with the utility and boat.

Enquiries were able to confirm that the boat and trailer had been reported stolen and the male was arrested and transported to the Bacchus Marsh police station for interview.

The male was subsequently charged with the following offences:

▸ Known thief loiter with intent to commit an indictable offence
▸ Theft
▸ Commit an indictable offence whilst on bail
▸ Going equipped to steal

The male, a 45-year-old of no fixed address was remanded overnight to appear at the Ballarat Magistrates Court today.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the Millbrook, Bungaree and Springbank areas for their diligence and situational awareness.

Police received numerous phone calls reporting the suspicious vehicle throughout the afternoon which has assisted police with their investigation greatly
