Positive Culture for Life (PCL) was developed at Kalamia State School and underpins our school values - I am Safe, I am Respectful, and I am a Learner.

Each week, we explore, implement and practise an aspect of our school values and discuss the impact our actions and positive mindsets have on others in our school, our families and in our community.

During Week 4 Term 4 our focus is I am Respectful - I follow instructions first time every time.

Take a second. Stay secure.

A quick conversation today could help keep your child safer online tomorrow.

Here are 3 questions to ask your child.

What apps are you using?

Do you know how to report something online?

Do you know what a scam message looks like?

This Cyber Security Action Month, take a moment to talk with your child about recognising scams, thinking before they click on links, protecting personal information, and speaking up if something online doesn't feel right.

Visit the Cyber Security Action Month campaign page for practical advice and tools ๐Ÿ”—

Take a second. Stay secure.Take a second. ๐Ÿ† An Outstanding Achievement ๐ŸŽค๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

A huge congratulations to our very own Isabella Colls, whose outstanding persuasive speech, Every Minute Matters, took out the winning spot at the Colls Memorial Lecturette Competition, hosted at the Home Hill State School Performing Arts Centre.

Year 6 students from across the Burdekin came together to share their ideas, challenge thinking and use their voices to speak about issues that matter. From kindness and the arts, to giving teenagers the right to vote, the range of topics showcased the confidence, creativity and critical thinking of our young people.

Isabellaโ€™s winning speech shone a spotlight on the desperate need for a 24-hour fire station in the Burdekin and surrounding areas, powerfully reminding us that when it comes to community safety and emergency response, every minute matters.

We are so proud of Isabella for her courage, conviction and willingness to advocate for her community. It takes confidence to stand before an audience, share your perspective and inspire others to think differently.

What an incredible example of student voice, leadership and how your words can make a difference!

Our sincere thanks to Home Hill State School for hosting such an inspiring event and extending this amazing opportunity to local students. Events like these create valuable opportunities for young people to find their voice, share their ideas and make a difference.

Congratulations, Isabella! You are achieving great things and we are incredibly proud of you.

๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿš—Different day, different drop-off?

Be sure to create a routine of checking the back seat every time you leave the car. This includes having conversations with your partner, grandparents and friends and checking even if your child is not with you.

Leaving children unattended in a vehicle can result in serious injury or death. In as little as 5 minutes, the temperature in a vehicle can reach dangerous levels.

๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ Learning to swim, building confidence and developing life-saving skills! ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Our students are making a splash as swimming lessons continue, developing important water safety knowledge and skills that can last a lifetime.

From practising swimming strokes and building confidence in the water to listening carefully, following instructions and learning about water safety, our students are giving it their best!

Swimming lessons are about so much more than swimming. They provide valuable opportunities to develop resilience, perseverance, independence and an understanding of how to make safe choices around water.

A big thank you to our swimming instructors and staff for supporting our learners as they challenge themselves, celebrate their progress and have plenty of fun along the way!

Every lesson is another step towards safer, more confident swimmers. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›
