Recently, some of the guys visited a sawmill in the Northern Rivers area and secured some sections of Camphor Laurel timber at a very reasonable cost. Camphor Laurel is considered as an invasive species because it grows aggressively and has a massive root system. However it is a delight to woodworkers with its distinctive smell and beautifully intricate grain patterns.

Shed veteran Erik finished the planning, sanding and glueing on this piece to make a magnificent cutting board. The grain patterns have more twists and detail than most oil paintings and the finish is as smooth as glass.

Feel free to visit the shed any weekday morning between 8:am and midday to check out this piece and many others, all for sale at bargain prices.

We got a pretty unique request from someone in the public: they wanted a scale model of an old western saloon. No worries, we were happy to help! We gave it to 94-year-old Irwin, who was thrilled. He spent a week in the back corner working on it and created this amazing piece.

Peter, ever the reliable one, added some colour and voilà! We had a real western saloon.

One of our incredibly talented members has managed to create a stunning ring box out of just a few scraps of beautiful walnut timber! The attention to detail and craftsmanship that has gone into this piece is truly impressive. Do you think he might be planning to pop the question to that special someone soon? 🤔💍 We're thrilled to see our members expressing their creativity and skills in the shed, and we can't wait to see what other amazing projects they come up with!

Residents of the scenic Great Ocean Road are at their wits' end after the increasingly intelligent birds learnt how to lift the lids of wheelie bins, spreading rubbish through the town of Lorne.

A massive shoutout & thankyou to Cr Brooke Patterson for supplying a much needed AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for the Ashmore Men's Shed. With Members ranging in ages from 50 to 94 years old, it was a must to have at the shed.

One of our founding members Noel, is moving overseas later this month. So what do you give an ex butcher... a cutting board. Noel has been the backbone of the shed since its inception. Always one of the first members in to get the shed ready for the day. One of the best BBQ guys around the first help where he can. He volunteers with a number of other businesses here on the coast oncluding Southport RSL Sub branch and Bowls Club. We all wish Noel our best in his move.
