The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to STAY INFORMED about predicted possible minor flooding on the Severn River:

- Ashford and surrounding areas

You should stay informed by monitoring warnings issued by NSW SES on their website and page, listening to your local ABC radio station, and checking the latest weather information from the Bureau of Meteorology online.

What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises rainfall associated with Tropical Cyclone Alfred is likely to cause rapid and dangerous river rises and extensive flooding in the North West of NSW during the weekend and into early next week.

Rainfall may extend inland during Sunday into early next week and may result in minor flooding in the North West and Central West Catchments from Sunday.

There is a chance that the flood watch area may expand further over the coming days as certainty develops about the movement of the system into the new week.

The location of the heaviest rainfall and most severe flooding will depend on the track of Tropical Cyclone Alfred. The recent slower movement of TC Alfred is likely to delay the onset of the heaviest rainfall, with heavy and locally intense rainfall forecast to increase Friday night and into the weekend over Northern NSW.

The heaviest rainfall will be south of the Tropical Cyclone track.

NSW SES is preparing a series of webpages to help communities understand flood risks in their area and prepare. Each webpage will have interactive flood maps combined with local community stories and experiences of floods. These will cover about 30 catchments with each catchment having a dedicated webpage.

The goal is to help people who might be new to the area to understand that floods happen in the area, what they can be like, and what they should do to prepare.

If anyone has any photos, videos and/or stories of major floods in Ashford and surrounds that you are happy to share please get in touch with me. These will be credited to the person who provided them, or this can be done anonymously if preferred.
