With great sadness, we learned of the passing of Queensland firefighter Izabella Nash overnight after a factory fire south of Brisbane. Our condolences go out to our friends at Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - QFES, Izabella's family and friends.

Our thoughts are also with firefighter Lia Drew who is in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Ashfield crew have had a busy day so far with three house/unit fires related to unattended cooking. In one case the resident had gone out and left the stove on.

Fortunately we were able to intervene before the kitchens were truly cooked but it's definitely best when don't have to.

Please "keep looking when cooking" and do not leave your stove or oven unattended.

Also, when you see the big red truck on the road and firies working around it. Please don't try to squeeze past. It just makes it more dangerous for everyone.

FIRE SAFETY #08 | Most home fires are caused by cooking left unattended. The risk is real. Remember to keep looking while cooking, and check you've turned off the stove or appliance when you're done. For cooking safety tips, visit us: https://fal.cn/3ckfu

The health consequences of smoking are well known, but did you know just how bad ci******es can be for your house and car?

Ashfield Fire Station attended two separate smoking related incidents today.

Firstly an unattended cigarette butt had started what could of been a very serious fire at a older couples home. Quick thinking by the neighbour to call 000 and the rapid response of Ashfield Fire Station averted what could of been a very serious house fire. The back of the house had started to catch alight on the fire crews arrival, however it was quickly bought under control.

Soon after Ashfield Fire Station was called to a serious car accident. Driving at speed one handed the driver lost control through the round about. Fortunately no-one was seriously injured...butt the photo tells the rest of the story.

In both cases, those ci******es burned serious holes in the pockets of those involved.
