Lost Property Reminder



With the end of Term 3 fast approaching, we remind families to please check the school’s Lost Property collection for any items that may belong to your child. The lost property area is located under administration in D Block. There are currently a number of jumpers, hats, drink bottles, lunch boxes and other belongings waiting to be reunited with their owners. We encourage families to check Lost Property before the end of term. Any items that remain unclaimed may be donated or disposed of during the holidays. A reminder to please label all school belongings with your child’s name. This makes it much easier for lost items to be returned. Thank you for helping us keep our Lost Property collection under control and ensuring items find their way home!

During week 10, our students will be focusing on our learning about our Our Thinking Gem — the sapphire, invites to every learner: Dare to think.

At Ascot, being a strong thinker isn't about being the child who is “clever” or who gets the answer first. In fact, sometimes good thinking means doing exactly the opposite — slowing down, looking more closely, questioning our first idea and being willing to change our mind. Our Thinking Gem is about teaching children how to think, not simply what to think.

We want our students to understand that there are different kinds of thinking for different situations. Sometimes we need to analyse and break something into parts. Sometimes we need to generate lots of possibilities. Sometimes we need to look at an issue from another person's perspective, weigh up evidence, solve a problem or decide which idea is strongest. Becoming a capable thinker means learning to deliberately choose the thinking that will help.

Our sapphire is a lovely symbol for this Gem. Traditionally associated with wisdom, truth and clarity, its deep blue suggests calm focus and depth of thought. Its structured shape reminds us that good thinking can be careful and precise, while the little lightbulb represents those wonderful moments of insight, reasoning and new ideas.

And perhaps the most important message for our children?

Great thinkers don't simply know more. They wonder, question, look closely, consider different perspectives, use evidence, make connections and keep improving their ideas.

At Ascot, we want every child to have the confidence to do just that — to dare to think.

At Ascot, self-management is about much more than “good behaviour”. We want our children to gradually move from being managed by adults to learning how to manage themselves — their emotions, choices, learning, relationships and responses when things don’t go quite to plan.

A Self-Managing learner begins by looking inward and asking:

What is happening inside me? What is in my control? What is my next best choice?

The Self-Managing Gem is about becoming a self-regulated learner. Children learn to recognise what helps them learn, notice when they are stuck or distracted, choose a strategy, ask for help or feedback, organise themselves, set goals and change their approach when something isn't working.

Our Tiger’s Eye is the perfect symbol for this Gem. Its “eye” reminds us to look inward, while the stone represents grounding, balance, strength and calm decision-making. The little scales within our Gem are another reminder that sometimes we need to pause and help ourselves get back into balance.

And perhaps the most important message for our children?

Please make sure you have all of your Summer Uniform items ready to be worn from this Monday 7th September.

The Uniform Shop opening hours are Monday and Thursday mornings from 8.15 - 9.30am however please note that the uniform shop will be closed this coming Thursday, 3rd September. Flexischools online orders will still be processed as normal.

Our Collaborative Gem — Better Together

This week we learn about Collaborative Gem, the emerald and its simple but powerful message: Better Together.

Our students of the week for this week will receive an updated certificate (with sticker) and a Collaborative gem pencil.

At Ascot, collaboration means much more than putting children into groups and asking them to “work together”. It is a capability that needs to be explicitly taught, practised, reflected upon and improved.

We describe the Collaborative Gem as our “with” gem, learning with others, contributing to a shared goal and helping everyone in the team to participate and succeed. Our students are learning that great collaborators listen, share, include, contribute, encourage, solve, decide and improve. Importantly, they also learn that good collaboration involves both leading and allowing others to lead.

This is why our emerald is round. A circle has no sharp edges and symbolises inclusion, unity and everyone contributing. Green represents growth, harmony, contribution and connection, a lovely visual reminder of what we want collaboration to feel like at Ascot.

And perhaps the most important message for our children?

Being a great collaborator isn't about being the loudest voice, having the best idea or doing everything yourself. It's about making the people around you better and allowing them to make you better too.

The Book Fair for 2026 will be open for its last day tomorrow (Thursday 27 August) from 9.00am – 3.30pm in the school library. Student wish lists will be coming home following class visits to the Book Fair. Purchases can be made online (using the QR code on the wish list) or by visiting the Book Fair in person.
