✨ Meet Our Guest Speaker – Therese ✨
We’re honoured to welcome Therese, one of the owners of Terry White Chemmart Sarina, as our guest speaker for this year’s Sarina Candle Lighting event.
Therese is a proud local who grew up right here in Sarina, attending both Sarina State Primary School and Sarina State High School. After completing her studies at university in Townsville, she returned home and became part owner of the local pharmacy.
Therese continues to live locally with her beautiful family and is a familiar, friendly face in our community. Her strong connection to Sarina and passion for supporting others makes her a wonderful addition to this important event.
We look forward to hearing from Therese as we come together to reflect, support one another, and stand united. 🕯️💜

Tomorrow is WOW Day - Wear Orange Wednesday

🧡 Tomorrow is WOW Day – Let’s Wear Orange! 🧡

Just a friendly heads up that tomorrow is WOW Day, Wear Orange Wednesday!

It’s a national day to celebrate and say thank you to our amazing SES volunteers who do so much to support our communities during storms, floods, and emergencies, often in the toughest conditions.

If you’ve got something orange in your wardrobe, we’d love you to wear it to work tomorrow and help show your support! 🧡 Even a little splash of orange makes a difference.

It’s a great way to recognise the incredible effort of volunteers, especially during what’s been another busy and challenging year.

Thanks so much everyone, let’s get behind it and brighten the day with a bit of orange!

WOW Day - Wear Orange Wednesday

Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day) , taking place on Wednesday, 20 May, is a national day dedicated to celebrating and showing appreciation for the incredible SES volunteers in Queensland and across Australia. These selfless individuals support our communities during storms, floods, and other emergencies, often in the most challenging circumstances.

This past year has been particularly demanding, with Queensland experiencing another severe weather season. Despite these challenges, our SES volunteers have once again shown exceptional commitment and resilience, responding to over 14,000 requests for assistance since WOW Day in May 2025!

WOW Day provides a wonderful opportunity for people across Queensland and the nation to express their gratitude to these volunteers who generously give their time to help others in need. Many choose to show their support by sharing WOW messages and photos in the lead-up to the day and by wearing orange on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.

This year, WOW Day coincides with National Volunteer Week (18–24 May), a time to recognise the invaluable contributions of volunteers from all walks of life. The theme for this year’s National Volunteer Week is "Your Year to Volunteer", encouraging everyone to reflect on the importance of volunteering and consider how they might contribute to their communities. As we celebrate WOW Day, let’s take a moment to thank the volunteers in our lives and think about how we, too, can make a difference.

National Volunteer Week – 18–24 May 2026

Theme: YOUR YEAR TO VOLUNTEER

A huge shout out to our amazing volunteers — the people who willingly give up their time, turn up when needed, support the community, and somehow still smile while doing it. Legends, really. 🚒👏

This year's theme, Your Year to Volunteer, celebrates those already making a difference and encourages others to jump in and give volunteering a go.

Thinking about joining? Here’s what we can guarantee:

✅ New skills
✅ New mates
✅ Plenty of laughs
✅ Supporting your community
✅ A boost to physical and mental wellbeing

Things we can't guarantee:

❌ That you'll remember where every tool goes
❌ That someone won’t make tea strong enough to stand a spoon in
❌ That there won't be the occasional debate over "whose turn it was"

🚒 Want to give volunteering a go?

Happy Mother’s Day to the ultimate multitaskers — our mums 💐

To mothers, mothers-to-be, grandmothers, adopted mums, stepmothers, foster mums, surrogate mums, aunts, fur mums, and all those who take on a mothering role… we celebrate you and say thank you for everything.

We also hold close those whose mums are no longer with us today.

Because let’s face it — you really are the superheroes. 💖
