Recently, Coal Services representatives attended the Mining & Energy Union Northern Delegates AGM, and the Mining & Energy Union South West Lodge Officers’ Conference.

The two events provided a valuable opportunity to share updates and insights from our Health, Insurance, and Mines Rescue Regulation & Compliance business units, and to connect with delegates and MEU executives.

With funding from the Coal Services Health & Safety Trust, Professor Maureen Hassall is facilitating free industry workshops to help refine psychosocial risk controls across NSW coal mine operations.

As part of a research project led by the Minerals Industry Safety and Health Centre, the workshops will bring together voices from the NSW coal mining industry to help shape practical guidance for psychosocial safety.

Insights from coal mine workers, contractors and advisers will help ensure the guidance is practical, evidence-based, and informed by experience.

Workshops will be held in Argenton and Woonona in April and May.

A century later, this milestone was commemorated with a special event hosted by the Coalfields Local History Association at the Sir Edgeworth David Memorial Museum. Representatives from NSW Mines Rescue, the Mining and Energy Union, government, and the local community came together to honour the legacy, the dedication, and reflect on the vital role Mines Rescue has played in keeping workers safe.

Mines Rescue (Lithgow) was pleased to support NSW Fire & Rescue last week by providing our station facilities for a training exercise involving live fire, reduced visibility and irrespirable atmospheric conditions.

Local firefighters undertook a range of practical drills designed to test their skills, knowledge of equipment, and ability to respond effectively in challenging conditions.

Thank you to everyone involved for their professionalism and teamwork in delivering a safe and successful training exercise.
