Today our cat 7 was out at fifes Creek rd fire alongside Dondingalong 9, talarm 9 and collombatti 7 doing property protection. Lots of metre high blade grass and those hills made for an interesting day. Well done to all involved

If you live in an area near grasslands or farms you need to be aware of grass fires. Recent rain has caused widespread grass growth. As this dries out, the risk of grassfires increases. Bush fires can occur quickly and without warning. Before you travel, make sure you have checked the conditions and have a plan in place if things change. Let people know your movements and if it’s not safe, avoid traveling altogether. Always keep an eye out for emergency vehicles and if you see a fire call triple Zero (000).

Permits are now required to light any fires, if you have the required permits, approvals, skills and the conditions are suitable, conduct a controlled burn on your property to reduce fuel. Reach out to your local RFS brigade or District office to discuss your plans. Always take note of any total fire bans in your area and ensure you notify local authorities and your surrounding neighbours 24hours before you start burning.
