Hi everyone!
As we reach the last day of Fire Danger Season in the Mount Lofty Ranges District, we want to take this opportunity to give a quick reminder that just because the season is over, it does not mean the danger of fire no longer exists.

Every year, the CFS sees a noticeable increase in calls right after the end of the Fire Danger Season - just because you're legally allowed to burn, it doesn't always mean that it's a good idea. We should always take the conditions into consideration, regardless of how long it might be until the next Fire Danger Season.

Remember to ensure you have at least 4m of clear space around any burns, and plenty of water immediately on-hand to extinguish. Don't let yourself get complacent, and be sure to keep an eye on your burns so that you can act quickly if necessary.

Finally, for those within a township, you may not be aware that there are additional rules on what you can burn and when. You can find more information on the Barossa Council website.

This is a timely reminder that even though we are officially into Autumn according to the calendar, the fire conditions can still potentially be significant.

TOTAL FIRE BANS have been declared for Tuesday 31 March 2026 in the following Fire Ban Districts:

Mount Lofty Ranges - Extreme

Where Total Fire Bans have been declared, very hazardous fire weather conditions are predicted.

The Total Fire Ban will apply for 24 hours from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow.

The CFS recommends that you implement your Bushfire Survival Plan.

Fire Danger Ratings
Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Extreme, only well prepared, well constructed and actively defended houses are likely to offer safety during a fire.

What should you do
If you don't have a plan to ensure your survival, leaving early before a fire starts is your safest option.

In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions.

Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council. Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight.

Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions

A timely reminder to people out there of the danger drones pose to firefighting operations 👇

🚨 Drones & Emergencies Don’t Mix 🚁🔥

Recently, aircraft responding to a fire were forced to divert following an alert from South Australia Police about a recreational drone flying in the area. This put critical firefighting operations on hold and increased risk to crews in the air and on the ground.

If you fly – emergency aircraft can’t.

Flying drones near fires, accidents, or other emergencies is illegal and dangerous. While it may be tempting to capture footage, doing so can delay lifesaving response efforts and place pilots, firefighters, and the public at serious risk.

What recreational drone operators need to know:
❌ Do not fly over or near emergency operations.
❌ Do not fly near bushfires, floods, traffic accidents, or rescue operations.
❌ Do not interfere with firefighting aircraft.

You must follow the drone safety rules. These rules apply everywhere and are designed to protect everyone.

👉 If emergency services are operating nearby, keep your drone on the ground.
👉 For everyone’s safety, respect the airspace, follow the laws, and let emergency crews do their job.
👉 Always check your local fire authority for current warnings and updates.
