What a great morning at the Alstonville Wollongbar Fun Run!

🚒 204 had a fantastic time getting amongst all the action, plenty of sunshine, great food and coffee ☕️, good tubes and an awesome crowd!

A huge congratulations to everyone who took part today, whether you were racing, running for fun, volunteering, supporting from the sidelines or just soaking up the atmosphere. 👏🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

The 204 boys even hit the course for the relay, fire boots and all! 🚒🥾🔥 !

Such a great community event and a brilliant way to spend a sunny Sunday morning. Thanks for having us, we loved being part of it! 🚒🔥

🚒 have you ever wondered what happens at Alstonville Fire Station on a Saturday?🚒

It's all the work that goes on behind the scenes so we're ready to respond when the pagers go off.

Every Saturday our crew completes our SIMS - Station Inventory Management. It's all part of being a Jacks of all trades... although in today's case, it was definitely Jill of all trades with the ladies out and about! 😉

Our Saturday jobs include:
🧯 Checking and testing all the equipment on our fire truck.
📻 Radio checks with our Communications Centre.
🏠 Carrying out free Home Safety Visits for our community.
🧹 Cleaning and maintaining the station.
⛽ Refuelling the pumper... and the firefighters! ☕😉

Our Home Safety Visit is a free Fire and Rescue NSW service. We will check your smoke alarms, install one if needed, and provide practical fire safety advice for your home.

With the kids at home for the next two weeks, now is the perfect time to reinforce some important fire safety tips around the house.

One metre from the heater isn’t just a catchy phrase ….. radiant heat can easily ignite items placed too close to a heat source. This is especially true for synthetic clothing hung up to dry or, as shown in the photo, a pile of firewood stored too close to the heater.

Always keep at least one metre clear around heaters and never leave them operating unattended.

Take a few minutes to chat with your children about what to do in an emergency, test your smoke alarms, and remember:

🫶 Today is Thank a First Responder Day 🫶

Today we would like to acknowledge and thank all First Responders for the incredible work they do in supporting our communities.

Whether it's responding to fires, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, rescues, storms, or countless other incidents, first responders are there when people need help the most.

Here at Alstonville Fire Station, we are proud to work alongside our emergency service partners and are grateful for the dedication, professionalism and commitment shown by first responders every day.

A special thank you to our firefighters, paramedics, police officers, SES volunteers, Marine Rescue crews and all emergency service personnel who help keep our communities safe.

If you see a first responder today, whether in uniform, at work, volunteering, or on call and ready to respond, take a moment to say thank you. A small gesture of appreciation can mean a great deal.

Be smart and take part in Smoke Alarm Action Day, and test your smoke alarm works!
A working smoke alarm is your best early warning sign of a fire, giving you and your loved ones the chance to get out, stay out, and call Triple Zero (000).

🚨🔥 Smoke Alarm Action Day
– 1 st June 🔥🚨

With winter just around the corner, now is the perfect time to check your smoke alarms at home.

As the weather cools down, we start using heaters, electric blankets, fireplaces, cooking appliances and charging more electronic devices, all things that can increase the risk of house fires.

Working smoke alarms save lives by giving you and your family early warning and valuable time to escape safely.

✅ Test every smoke alarm in your home
✅ Replace batteries if needed
✅ Replace smoke alarms older than 10 years
✅ Make sure alarms are correctly installed
✅ Have a home fire escape plan and practise it

It only takes a minute to test your smoke alarm… but it could save a life.

Don’t become complacent when it comes to fire safety this winter.

And that’s a wrap 🚒 🔥 Alstonville Fire Station Open Day, done and dusted! 🚒🔥

A huge thank you to the Alstonville community for such an incredible turnout and for making the day so special. We loved welcoming so many locals through the station and sharing a fun, interactive day with you all.

A big shoutout to our amazing firefighters for bringing the energy, knowledge, and community spirit, and to Northern Rivers Wildlife Carers for keeping everyone well-fed with some great sausages! 🌭
