Located just 40 minutes drive out of Alice Springs, Standley Chasm is the result of surging flood waters over thousands of years cutting through tough quartzite to form a picturesque natural alleyway. The result is a deep cleft in the rock rising 80 metres high. The best time to enjoy the colours of the chasm is in the middle of the day as the overhead sun filters down into the cleft and highlight
s the colours in the surrounding rock. There are some lovely walks in the area, with the shady scenic walk into the chasm being most notable, along a 1.2km wheelchair accessible pathway. However there is another short walk that climbs up a valley and finishes on a saddle with spectacular views, and sections 3 and 4 of the Larapinta Trail also run through the area. The campsite here is a popular stop for the walkers during the season. There is often wildlife to spot, and an abundance of local fauna to enjoy. The Chasm has a kiosk on site where lunch and drinks, including real barista coffee, can be purchased. Not part of the National Parks, Standley Chasm is a privately owned Aboriginal community enterprise and an entrance fee applies to the site. Entry fees:
