May 28th would have been Patrick White’s 114th birthday. The only Australian author to have yet won the Nobel Prize for Literature, White stands tall as one of Australia’s greatest literary voices. His powerful novels, including Eye of the Storm, The Tree of Man and The Vivisector, continue to shape Australian literature and storytelling. Why not mark the occasion by picking up one of his works from the library?

Wednesday marked the announcement of the 14th annual Stella Prize, an award that recognises Australian female and nonbinary literary talent. And this year’s winner is Cannon by Lee Lai, the first ever graphic novel to be awarded the prize! Cannon follows a chef through her past and present after a nervous breakdown, exploring themes of friendship, family responsibility, and communication.

We also have the shortlisted titles on our shelves:
Memorial Days (Geraldine Brooks)
Fireweather (Miranda Darling)
The Rot (Evelyn Araluen)
58 Facets (Marika Sosnowski)
I Am Nannertgarrook (Tasma Walton)

You can also find Lai’s earlier work Stone Fruit, which was longlisted for the 2022 Stella.
Congratulations to Lee Lai!

This year marks a whole century since A.A. Milne first introduced the world to a Bear of Very Little Brain — and a heart big enough to fill the Hundred Acre Wood.

For 100 years, Winnie‑the‑Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger, and friends have reminded readers of all ages about the sweetness of friendship, the comfort of kindness, and the joy of slowing down with a good book (and perhaps a little smackerel of something).

To celebrate Pooh’s 100th anniversary, we’ve created a cosy display filled with classic stories, beautiful editions, and books inspired by the world’s most beloved bear. Come wander through the Hundred Acre Wood with us and rediscover the gentle magic that has charmed generations.

“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.”
Happy 100th Birthday, Pooh Bear.
