Alice Springs Family Day Care

Alice Springs Family Day Care Family Day Care is an approved form of early childhood education and care that is provided in educators homes.

Alice Springs Family Day Care Inc is a community–based not–for–profit organisation, supported and funded by the Department of Education Employment and Workplace Relations. The organisation is governed by the NT legislation, the new Education and Care Services National Regulations and National Quality Framework, ensuring the very best standard of care

Educators earn an income by providing care in their own homes for small groups of children and are supported by the coordination unit. The co-ordination unit assists families and Educators with placement of children, provides training and resources to Educators, and information to families who use the service. Family Day Care combines the benefits of other childcare options with the warmth and intimacy of growing up at home. Children in Family Day Care develop a close relationship with one Educator while being encouraged to learn through play–based programs. Small groups of children in Family Day Care mean children receive more individual attention as well as the social interaction they need and enjoy.

Today, we take the time to acknowledge and celebrate our wonderful Educators and the incredible work they do each and every day. 💕

Our Educators play such an important role in the lives of the children in their care, nurturing, supporting and encouraging them as they learn, grow and develop. Just as importantly, they are always there to support and encourage the children in the care of their fellow Educators.

While Family Day Care Educators may work independently, it is wonderful to see how strongly they come together as a team. 🤝❤️ They share ideas, support one another, celebrate each other’s successes and work collaboratively to provide the very best experiences and opportunities for all children within our service.

We are incredibly grateful for the passion, dedication, care and commitment each of our Educators brings to their work.

Thank you for everything you do — you truly make a difference! 🌈💐

Few childhood experiences are supported by evidence as consistently as reading with children.

Shared reading supports vocabulary, comprehension, early literacy, and the language children use to think, communicate, and learn. It also creates repeated opportunities for conversation, closeness, and connection.

And its value reaches far beyond the preschool years.

A longitudinal study found that shared reading at ages 2–3 predicted academic achievement six years later, partly through its relationship with children’s language and early learning skills.

A meta-analysis of 99 studies found that print exposure was associated with vocabulary, comprehension, spelling, and general knowledge, with many of these relationships growing stronger across development.

And in a study of more than 10,000 young adolescents, beginning to read for pleasure earlier was associated with stronger cognitive performance, better mental well-being, fewer attention difficulties, and differences in brain structure.

No single experience determines a child’s future, and these studies do not prove that reading alone causes every outcome. But across decades of research, the pattern is remarkably consistent: meaningful, ongoing experiences with books are strongly connected to language, learning, and well-being.

So read from birth. Keep reading aloud after children can read independently. Let them see you reading. Keep books within reach. Give books as gifts. And let children choose what makes them genuinely want to read.

Even when it’s the funny fart book.

Because the goal is bigger than raising a child who can read.

It is raising a child who wants to read, learn, wonder, and know more.
